SIM Card can't be used in other phones.
by rdoan76 July 3, 2007 5:28 AM PDT
Yes, it can be removed, but I have heard that it is not usable in any other AT&T phones. Is there any truth to that? Also, none of the iPhone's features can be used if the SIM card is not installed.. making it a big brick.

iPhone SIM does work in other phones
by Jeroden July 3, 2007 6:28 AM PDT
I know that it will work in other phones, because during my activation ordeal, my SIM card was activated, but the iPhone was still not. I was told by an AT&T rep that I didn't need the phone connected to iTunes to start it up after I finished the initial phase and iTunes told me to wait for an e-mail. This was not true, but I left the area that I could be on the internet and my phone stayed a brick. I called back and finally got someone that could help me and let me know about how I needed to be connected to iTunes to activate, and that I could use my old phone with my new SIM if needed. I popped it in, and viola, it worked. Later on, I got to an internet connection and started it right up. BTW, I don't blame AT&T for giving me wrong info, they didn't have much info until the first day also.

iPhone's SIM card cam work on other Phones....BUT
by wrufftarain July 3, 2007 7:33 PM PDT
Yes. Once activated the iPhone's SIM card will work in other phones, but try to add another phone's sim card into the iPhone and it will not work. The iPhone is set to work only with the SIM card it was actiavted with. if you swap it with another SIM card the iPhone will believe its a new sim and try to activate it again. and since its already activated it will not work.

Working with a different carrier before activation
by jorgefernandez July 5, 2007 9:06 PM PDT
"iphone will only work with the sim card it was activated with" I fully
understand this, but does it mean that if I buy a new iphone from apple, and
insert my own different carrier (other than ATT), will it work and become
attached to this sim?

iPhone SIM works in older phones
by rxfrchng August 2, 2007 8:35 AM PDT
Popped my iPhone SIM into my old Sony Ericsson T68i ... worked like a charm. When I put the SIM back into the iPhone, I couldn't get connected to AT&T's network. Tried turning the power on and off, synching with my Mac, nothing worked. I turned the Airplane mode on and off, and that did the trick!

Email from AT&T

Here is an email from AT&T that they gave me when I asked them. Although, I
tried it and it worked for me.

"If you choose to use your sim card in a different phone other than the
one we have listed on the account, we cannot guarantee that you will
receive acceptable service. There may be instances where the phone may
not work. For further assistance with this issue please contact customer
service at 1-800-331-0500 or 611 from your cell phone."

At&T Sims into the iPhone
by ianqg November 21, 2007 3:28 PM PST
I'm hoping to transfer the sim card that's currently in my RAZR v3 into an already unlocked iPhone. Would somebody share with me the feasability of doing this?

I'm getting mixed information from other forums.

Thanks.

CAN switch att sim cards
by bigpimper February 28, 2008 11:22 PM PST
You can switch a sim card from any att fone to an iphone as long as they are both 3g and the iphone has been activated at some point. You may have a bit of trouble when the iphone says its the wrong card, just switch it from airplane mode and back again. This works definately in version 1.0 so all these other people saying diff are wrong. As for any newer firmwares, well since my experience ends there so does my info but it stands to reason u can do the same thing. The problem comes with the itunes...which i just get the older version 7.4.2 since its easier to mod anyway. All i know is i have a 8gb iphone i paid 150 for using with with my old pda sim and it works fine. I cut off the edge and use the wifi for internet and thats all i need. L8R
