Hulu invitations!

by Rafe Needleman

The Hulu team has set aside a big block of invitations to its private beta for Webware readers. If you want to try out the TV streaming site started in partnership NBC and News Corp., sign up here for access.

I like the service a lot. It's a great place to catch up on shows you and your Tivo miss. It also has some great archives, like early Firefly episodes. But for some inexplicable reason, it only has a few shows from Season 1 of 24, starting with Episode 6.

Other than that, it's well worth checking out. See review: Hulu Looks Great.

I also recommend people taking advantage of this offer. Hulu's nailed most the basic features I expect in a site geared towards watching video. I find the interface a little bare, but fundamentally clean and simple.

The only thing it lacks that I'd really like to see is some more community-based features. Tagging shows, recommending them to friends, and a wiki for shows like Heroes with a lot of back story would be nice. Although, if they couldn't implement this without cluttering up the interface, to heck with it.

Thanks Guys! I have only played around with the site for a little bit, but it actually looks good! I've heard a lot of groaning about the idea of it from some people (and I had the same fears they did) but I think they did it right. It has a Joost feel with something Joost has been missing, stuff I actually want to watch! The buffering is amazingly fast. I can jump to anywhere in the show within 2 seconds. Hopefully they don't try to mess with it and screw it up. Something definitely worth checking out.

Again, thanks for posting the invites! Webware Rules!

Hulu is Awesome... I have had my account for almost 3 weeks and I love it.
I am a huge TV fanatic of the old TV shows before the Reality Bombardment we
are now suffering through. I really like the fact that you can embed these shows
in your own website and make it part of your own content. Pleass check out my
website that will eventually house tons of hulu.com TV shows. www.thefirstseason.com
Get the account while viewing these great shows is still Free.

After 5 years, Firefox faces new challenges

Mozilla helped reshape the Web since releasing Firefox 1.0 five years ago. Now it's got a reawakened Microsoft and Google Chrome to reckon with.

There's a map for that: GPS or smartphone?

Almost every handset comes with mapping software these days, but standalone GPS devices are becoming more affordable than ever.
