SplashCast launching ultrasocial video player tomorrow
Video hosting and mashup solution SplashCast is launching an upgrade to their video player tomorrow morning. The most noticeable change is a new YouTube-ish playlist of video thumbnails in the bottom 20 percent of the viewer, which can be pulled up and dismissed at the user's discretion. Previously, users were limited to a channel-view text list (which is still available), but my bet is that users will feel at home with this newer navigation.
The real killer application, however, is the inline commenting system which gives users three ways to leave their feedback: a video clip (from a Webcam or hard drive), text, and voice. All three remain in the same section, and there's no user registration required to leave your two cents. Recording and playing video in the player is really simple, and looks pretty good.
There are a few other mentionable tweaks, including a pause button, an inline "e-mail this" tool to share show segments or entire programs with friends, and a full screen button that remains no matter what type of program you're viewing (not just videos and photos). There's also a new "follow me" button which lets you know when the program's creator publishes new shows. It's a little bit like the channel-creator subscriptions with YouTube.
SplashCast is planning to introduce a mobile upload feature to its platform within a month, so users will be able to drop photos and video clips into their channels from a mobile phone--a lot like Kyte.tv (review). There will also be more celebrity channels, and the potential for Twitter integration and live user chat, similar to Pikspot's player.
You can now check out a video playlist with thumbnails that move a little bit like the dock in Mac OS X.

As much as I think SplashCast have a quality product, the features that I notice you getting so excited about have already been available on Springdoo (www.springdoo.com) for a number of months now.
With Springdoo?s SpringCast product (http://www.springdoo.com/SpringCastHowItWorks.aspx) users can record or upload videos from their web browser then choose to broadcast them through the social networks or wherever they have a web presence using the SpringCast widget.
Fans etc are able to interact directly with the widget and leave direct video or audio replies to each individual video. They also have the option to subscribe to the Caster or view it via their mobile phone.
We?ve had a fantastic response from music artists and labels wanting to increase their exposure and retail opportunities on the web and allow their fans to remain constantly connected with them.
We?ve also recently updated the Springdoo video player, which like SplashCast?s has the full screen option. However we have also provided users with a capture button and a mobile button which generates a unique code for every video playing through Springdoo allowing the user to access it directly through their mobile phone.
Finally we have the SpringMobile product. This allows the user to send video directly from their 3G mobile phone to the web without the need to download any software. All they have to do is make a video call to the 3G shortcode 88388, record the video and hang-up. The video is then sent to the user?s Springdoo account and is also instantly updated on their SpringCaster widget.
The instant video broadcast from the mobile, also works seamlessly with our recently launched Springdoo Facebook application (Search for SpringCaster) which makes sharing, creating and watching videos easy and fun on the social network.
We?ve plenty more developments planed for the coming months which we?re looking forward to seeing people?s reactions on.
