When it comes to mobile browsing, most cell phone users are stuck with the Web portals provided by their carriers. Not only that, but accessing Web mail and conducting online searches on most cell phones can take a painfully long time. If you're a fan of Yahoo's services, then the new Yahoo Go for Mobile 2.0 may be the solution to your mobile-surfing woes. Compatible with more than 175 handsets, the Yahoo Go for Mobile 2.0 software provides instant access to Yahoo services and information sources like Web mail, local directories, maps, news, and even Flickr, the photo-sharing darling of the Web 2.0 world. It also incorporates a new mobile search system Yahoo calls oneSearch, which displays search results in a custom Web page for easier navigation. You can read more of what we thought of this new mobile service in our full review here.

Great in Theory, Lousy in Implementation
by akarchm01 May 22, 2007 6:07 PM PDT
I was an avid user of Yahoo Go 1.0. It sync'd my Yahoo! Calendar, Yahoo! Address Book, and Yahoo Mail, wonderfully. Then, one day, my Yahoo! Mail ceased to sync. I didn't change any settings - it just "broke". So I started to send help requests to Yahoo. That was 3 months ago. I am still waiting for a useful response and my mail still does not work.

Then I started to look around for an online solution. During my search, I read in various newsgroups that Yahoo Go 2.0 inexplicably eliminated the functionality to sync the address book and calendar! That seems like a major regression and would prevent me from upgrading to Yahoo Go 2.0. COME ON YAHOO! DON'T TAKE AWAY A GREAT FUNCTION! USERS SHOULD BE ABLE TO RELY ON YAHOO GO 2.0 TO SYNC THEIR CALENDAR, ADDRESS BOOK, AND MAIL. AND IT SHOULD WORK!

Yahoo Go 2.0 lacks syncing feature
by gaurav_malik August 18, 2007 1:21 PM PDT
While Google Calendar allows alerts via text etc. I have stuck by Yahoo due to Yahoo Go allowing over-the-air sync between Yahoo Calendar and device Calendar.

However the new version lacks this important feature. This means you have to go online every time you wish to look up an event. With more developers creating over-the-air sync tools with Google Calendar (goosync etc.), it seems that Yahoo has once again taken their eye of the ball and released a half baked product. Yahoo was a pioneer with the the idea of mobile web. Just hope it does not lose this lead as it did the web search.
