by Rafe Needleman

The official press conference launching the Chrome browser is scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m. PDT. See the live blog below for my blow-by-blow commentary. Google also plans to host a video stream of the conference in two formats: Windows Media Player | Real Player.

See all of CNET's Chrome coverage.

i downloaded it and like it a lot so far. Fast and apparently much more stable than IE8 beta 2, and fancier too. Go google :)
no problems so far, other than a pop up taking over my main window :( (I opened a site with a popup and the pop up took over the main site and displayed in full size)

IE8 is apparently having trouble with several Microsoft websites, including live search and mail....
all I need is to figure out how to bookmark a page... and importing bookmarks didn't work for me :(

Chrome has been installing for 10 minutes. Seems to be stuck at initializing...

This is on the second attempt as well. It seems to launch a program called Googleupdater whose process can't be interupted.

It has Java support. It's just not working for some people yet.
by Imalittleteapot September 2, 2008 10:38 PM PDT
Correction. Apparently it needs Java 6 Update 10 installed which I already had installed prior so it just worked for me, but others would need to update.

Fine Print? (from http://news.cnet.com/8301-17939_109-10030522-2.html?tag=mncol;tback)

Although you retain any copyrights to content you own and use in the browser, Google says it has a right to display some of your content, in conjunction with promoting its services. Here's their exact wording.

"By submitting, posting or displaying the content you give Google a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, adapt, modify, translate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute any content which you submit, post or display on or through, the services. This license is for the sole purpose of enabling Google to display, distribute and promote the services and may be revoked for certain services as defined in the additional terms of those services."

Wow. Something i like and something i don't. The hype about the speed of the browser rendering pages is completely true. Chrome loads pages so fast it feels like it's loading a page from a local directory. It's...amazing. I couldn't believe it when i went to youtube and digg

Something i don't like: On my laptop's touch pad i have a little strip i can slide my finger down to scroll up and down pages. It doesn't work in Chrome! Seeing as how most of the time i use my pad rather than a mouse, this needs to be fixed

Lastly, are there apps for chrome like in firefox? I'd like to have gmail checker

I have the same icon/problem, can't scroll up with my touchpad.

@jonburce_ddt: Java support requires 1.6 update 10rc. After that, Java works fine in Chrome

For anyone who wishes to fix the issue "cannot scroll up using certain mouse pads" issue quickly, I have released a patcher. You can download it here:
http://users.ecs.soton.ac.uk/pjt2v07/chrome/

Just run chrome_patch.exe. It will patch chrome.dll to fix the issue.
