Logitech today announced a Webcam specifically tailored to Macs. The Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro is a spitting image in terms of both specs and design of the PC-friendly QuickCam Pro 9000 I reviewed (and very much liked) last year, but Logitech sees fit to charge the few Webcam-less Mac owners out there an additional $30. The QuickCam Vision Pro will cost you $130 when it's released next month; the QuickCam Pro 9000 can be had for $100 or less.

Like its PC doppelganger, the QuickCam Vision Pro features a 2-megapixel sensor, a Carl Zeiss lens, and Logitech's RightLight technology, which I've found to work wonders in low light. Logitech states the camera can record video up to 1,600x1,200 resolution and deliver 30 frames per second when chatting on Skype or iChat.

$130? Ha! I'll wait till that pricetag goes down a tad or a much cheaper alternative is released by Logitech. For now, my Playstation 2 Eyetoy camera and the macam webcam driver will do just fine for my webcam usage on my Mac ;-)

You can use a regular 9000 on your mac. The problem is, these cameras rely on the logitech software to do a lot of the special functions (e.g., auto focus). Without this software, you get a watered down experience.

Why would you need this if most mac's come with a built in camera anyways?

Mainly those who purchase apple cinema displays for Mac Pro's...

Wow, thanks Logitech. You're only about 5 years late to the party. Actually, I might buy something like this someday to replace my aging iSight, but there's certainly no rush. What I don't understand is why Apple doesn't sell an updated iSight. Am I the only person who thinks the built in iSights suck?? You can't even aim them! Any chatmate sees a nice shot of my forehead if I try to use the one built into my MacBook. Ridiculous. Not all of us use our computers while sitting at a desk like Steve Jobs does during his presentations.
