Gentlemen, start your Gibsons: The Guitar Hero World Tour is about to begin.

The next version of Activision's hit title promises to take the shredding experience to the next level with "a cooperative band experience that combines the most advanced wireless instruments with revolutionary new online and offline gameplay modes," according to the company. Among the new elements will be a new guitar controller, virtual drums, and microphone, as well as master recordings from Van Halen, the Eagles, Linkin Park, and other artists. The selection can be expanded further with downloads through its "Music Studio," which will also allow players to compose and customize their own tunes, and its "Battle of the Bands" allows up to eight people to compete online at the same time.

The new title will be available on Microsoft's Xbox 360, Nintendo's Wii, and Sony's PlayStation 2 and 3. It won't be out until the fall, so you've got a few months to soundproof the walls--or, if you have teenage kids, to move them into the garage.

Ha. Looks like they're a little jealous of Guitar Hero's original creators and their Rock Band success.

Well considering that Neversoft sold more GH3 copies than Harmonix's Rock Band (original creators of GH), I wouldn't really think they'd be "jealous". Even when you consider Rock Band generates more ARPU with their more expensive bundle package, GH3 still made more money than RB.

I don't consider it a bad thing that we as consumers will have better choices in the future with competent developers trying to outdo each other to deliver the best product. Everybody wins.

All Rockband developers need to do to beat this copycat is release a redesigned drum kit. People who already have Rockband would be more likely to drop $50-60 on new drums than $200+ on the new Guitar Hero game. The Guitar Hero franchise are snobs charging more money than Rockband for everything starting with downloads and ending with peripherals.

Oh, and I'm not buying the "create your own single" BS.

If I wanted Rock Band, I would have bought Rock Band. This just spoils the simplicity of Guitar Hero

quit your *******' compitition is a GREAT thing! I'm glad I didn't buy rock band, and I like the drum set of Guitar Hero better. To each his own! And no I do not call it anyone copying anyone. They branched off because of different companies buying someone else off. I can't wait to see the finished product!

I really don't get why they added only 3 pads (3 toms). Just because they see most drummers these days use 3 toms? That is so emo. ROCKBAND did it right, they added 4 toms, I rather have that then 2 more cymbals. Obviously, Guitar Hero has built more towards looks, and forgotten about the music when it comes to drums. I am a professional drummer, so you heard it first from me.

The best thing for Rockband to do to its drumset is redesign that insipid kick drum pedal it uses. how about a real kick drum pedal with a beater and spring that hits a trigger like rolands vdrums, now that would be sweet and design a guitar that doesnt break after 2 days.
