LaCie releases external hard drive with eSATA

LaCie has put another Triple Interface external hard drive on the market today, and although it looks very similar to the rest of their line (Neil Poulton also designed this one), there's one striking difference: they've included an eSATA port in addition to Firewire 400 and USB 2.0.

External Serial Advanced Technology Attachment eliminates the need to translate data between the computer and the storage drive which speeds up the process to almost triple the speed of Firewire 400 and USB 2.0. We're hoping it'll usher in a new era of hard drives featuring this faster bus interface.

The drive is available now in 500GB, 750GB, and 1TB capacities.

The following products mentioned are available.

Are you guys serious? External Hard Drives with eSATA interfaces have been around for years! Did you mean first triple interface xHDD with eSATA? In that case your editing is sloppy...

i agree, with achen0801 but even with the triple interface Seagate freeAGENT PRO models have offered all three of those interfaces on one external for a while now

agreed! I just didn't remember exactly what drives or when would have come out first

Agreed. There's absolutely nothing revolutionary about this. I had my first eSATA drive from Western Digital ~3 months ago and those certainly weren't the first ones on the market.

<Apple zealots thinking LaCie is the holier-than-thou external drive mfg of choice annoy me.>

where does the announcement mention that this is the first of its kind? we were simply mentioning a trend with hard drive including eSATA

they edited the post so it doesn't say first of its kind

very cute, but i have the original version of this article in an RSS feed...your original headline was "LaCie introduces first external hard drive with eSATA interface"...so don't try to compound a mistake with a lie...
by achen0801 April 3, 2008 2:12 PM PDT
seriously, your integrity really stinks....don't try to change the title after the fact then ask what we're talking about...your original title (which I have saved in RSS feed) is:

LaCie introduces first external hard drive with eSATA interface

I'm not an Apple zealout, but this is just so grossly inaccurate you guys should own up to it and call it a day...

to clear up all confusion:

i read your comments not knowing that a copy editor had shortened the headline to fit the page by deleting the "first" out of the original. in the original headline i should have written "lacie releases its first external hard drive eSATA." i was pointing out that prior to this hd, lacie had yet to include eSATA on any of their consumer level drives. a quote taken directly from the pr manager at lacie reads:

"This device includes eSATA which is very unique to LaCie as this is the first time such an interface is available on a consumer level product."

this mistake in syntax was compounded by post editing, making it look like we were back-tracking, which was not the case. apologies to all and thanks for keeping us on our toes!
