Apple releases new iPhone firmware
It's not a software development kit, but there is something new today for iPhone owners.
Apple released OS X firmware update 1.1.4 Tuesday for the iPhone, saying little about the new features. The last update, 1.1.3, introduced a few new capabilities such as the ability to customize the home page, but the only thing noted as new in 1.1.4 are "bug fixes," which are probably welcome.

(Credit: CNET Networks)It's not clear at this early juncture whether the new update does anything to the legions of jailbroken and unlocked iPhones out in the world, but if you're one of those users living outside Apple's user agreement, you might want to hold off installing the update until more details are uncovered. We'll update if we hear more.
In addition, so far on Tuesday we've learned nothing new about Apple's iPhone software development kit, expected to arrive sometime this week before the end of February. It was a busy day for the company, though, with new MacBooks and MacBook Pros making an appearance in Apple stores.

brings up the ipod controls now...and from the lock screen you
can control ipod volume and play, pause and skip tracks. Pretty
neat...also I've been making my own ringtones since the
technology came out and this update didn't affect them just as
1.1.3 didn't...i use a program called fission and
makeiphoneringtone...not sure how you do it but works fine for
me. My ringtones also appear in iTunes just fine...your phone
should be safe from that.

(5 Comments)Mac was released (I'm dating myself). Nine Macs/Laptops (not
counting other family members) and 3 IPods later, not to
mention Airports, I feel violated. The real Apple faithful are less
than happy.
The choice between buying the current IPhone and a clone is no
different than the choice between microwaves (do you want a
drawer or a built-in?). They all do the same thing in different
ways. An unlocked IPhone is another countertop microwave. You
can move it around, but it doesn't do anything different!
Apple needs to get with it when it comes to the release of a
superior IPhone or the "Attack of the Clones" will become a
reality check. The real Apple followers are not going to fall for
the "should have been"and will or not wait for for the "better
be", like Rip Van Winkle, they will succumb.
But I'm not willing to wait longer than I have to. As for me
(Verizon customer), I am reay to jump ship but the IPhone
version had better be worth it. The current IPhone does not come
close to enticing me. I'll live with the RAZOR (overseas) and the
Treo (national.
3G, where are you? Until then, my current phones will have to
do.
