The latest TV fashion may be bleached

There's not much that can (or should) be done to create an entirely new design for an LCD or plasma TV without ruining its clean and sleek look. They basically are limited by the same constraints as handheld devices with large touch screens--a lack of unused real estate.

But we hope that won't inspire manufacturers to go crazy experimenting with colors in a big way. It's true that we've seen a pink TV or two, as well as some that have sported natural wood and bamboo finishes (not to mention diamonds and rubies, but we won't go there). And oddly enough, the latest trend may be no pigment at all.

Barely a week after Pioneer showed off its white HDTV, Humax is doing the same with two limited-edition LCDs for the U.K. market, according to Pocket-lint. Those TVs, which have smaller 19-inch screens and built-in receivers for the U.K.'s Freeview digital television and radio signals, are presumably meant for the kitchen and other areas where such all-in-one sets make the most sense. Perhaps the most practical feature, however, is something we think every TV should include, especially if it carries network programming: an alarm clock.

Gee what else is white like that? Hmm, a Mac! Then Mac went black and everyone went "Ahh!" It's the same thing round and round and each company with shift its visual trend just slight of everyone else. And we'll all be amazed and repulsed at the same time. I'm sure in the next 5 years silver will make a comeback like it was trendy in 2001 and all our TVs will look like Sony WEGAs again.
