Headphones for $50 or less

Sony MDR-710LP headphones

New headphones are my No. 1 recommendation to anyone who wants to get the most out of their new MP3 player. (Except, of course, for those who decided to go with the Sony NWZ-A810 series or the Zune 80.) Straight up: Those janky, plastic buds that came with your player aren't doing you any favors. First off, they're not terribly comfortable, and they don't fit most users securely--for me, there are few things more annoying than having to constantly shove a hard piece of plastic into my ear. Then of course there's the sound-quality issue...hollow, tinny, bassless, muffled, hissy. I've heard it all. If you really want to hear what your MP3 player has to offer, replacing those 'buds is a must. Of course, I understand that not everyone can afford to throw down $450 on a pair of Shure SE530s, or even close to $100 on the Ultimate Ears Super.fi 3 Studio (though I can assure you that they are both worth it if you've got the dough). To that end, I've rounded up six deserving contenders that will set you back just $50 or less. There's a style for every taste and comfort requirement, and each and every one of these selections will offer some noticeable improvement over stock 'buds. Check out the products.

For more than five years, Jasmine France has covered a variety of tech products for CNET--from scanners to keyboards to GPS devices--but she's happiest where she is now: sitting atop a pile of MP3 players, "testing" every music service known to man, and jamming a variety of earbuds in every shape and color into her absurdly small ears. These all are great but I think you forgot one...

I am not an audiophile and I am definatly not the go-to-guy for audio equipment. So with that said I feel that this list totally looked over a REALLY great product. The Skullcandy Ink'd Smokin Buds or basically anything Skullcandy in general. I have a 80GB iPod Classic and I fell in love with the iPod earbuds that came with my iPod. They eventually broke and I was in the market for a new set. Lucky for me I took a trip to Circuit City and invested on the Skullcandy headphones. To tell you the truth I was in absolute shock at how great they sounded. They need a little bit of a break-in period but afterwards they sounded awesome. The greatest thing about them....they cost me $15.00!!!! So for Headphones under 50 bucks you guys should have DEFINATLY included these!

Hands down the best headphones under 50 bucks are Koss Portapros. I always have 2 pair handy...1 for gym, 1 for regular use. I have yet to find better-sounding cheap headphones - and I feel they are better than many $100-200 pairs I have tried.
