The high-capacity flash DAP war escalates.

Creative, one of the first MP3 player manufacturers to cross the 32GB threshold for flash-based MP3 players, has lowered the price of their 32GB Zen from $349 to $299. Could this price drop have anything to do with Apple's recently released 32GB iPod Touch? I wouldn't bet against it. After all, it sounds much more impressive to say that the Zen is a full $200 less than the competition. People like big round numbers, right? The Zen also has the advantage of SDHC memory expansion, offering a potential 48GB of solid state storage.

If you're looking for more MP3 players with capacity to spare, I just updated my 'MP3 players for file hoarders' feature over on CNET.

lol... i love the title
by tonenyc February 8, 2008 2:17 PM PST
now that's a funny title. truth is tho, that touch is turning into a sub-low-quality (lol), over-priced PDA instead of a no-FM radio, enslaving, over-priced mp3 player. personally, i've wanted a Zen for quite a while but I just got a 4gb memory card for my SE W810i (and at least it has FM radio). I am good for now! But, when I get some money to throw away (no, that stimulus package won't help me), I will buy a Zen! Maybe, the price will drop by that time!

Awesome ZEN Player
by kennyy921 February 11, 2008 7:58 AM PST
Ive had a zen Vision before i bought an ipod 2 years ago, so its incredibly
reliable, beautiful player, and a worthy competitor to the iPod Classic, and
maybe to the ipod touch. But im tired of this BS, about the ipod touch
becoming crap. WTH? how can it become crap?!, it was an IPOD before, it
ONLY played music, NOW it goes on the INTERNET, WIFI, it has maps, contacts (enhanced), you can even hack it to run your AIM and MSN.

You paid for an ipod, you got that a bag of kettle cooked chips.
stop the whining.

(SSD? thats awesome, especially 48GB of it, i wonder if its uber expensive?!,

price drop

Just to set the record straight but the Zen 32gb was priced at $299 at least 2 weeks before Apple announced the 32 gb touch. I have been following the website to see when the Zen 32 gb was available and the price has been $299 since early/mid January

Sandisk View

The 32 GB View was out before both players.

It's easy to increase your storage when that's what you do for a living.

A 64 GB unit is not far behind.

Well until Creative.......

Intergrates the added memory into the main programs, I'll probably wait. What's the use of added memory if it's like a stand alone player?

is CNET behind on tech knowledge?

Actually you could up it to 64GB, as 32GB SDHC cards are already out.

If Creative could integrate wi-fi, and include an internet radio feature (like slacker radio) I would get the zen in a second! Get it done!
