Zune tries to send a Valentine

by Mike Yamamoto
(Credit: Microsoft)

With Emperor Jobs holding court once again today, it's easy to forget that there are actually some products not made by Apple--especially the Zune. But the player continues to chug along, trying its best to stay relevant however it can.

Enter the red Valentine's Day edition, an 80GB model that can be custom-designed with laser engravings and personal messages. Hearts, flowers, butterflies--you know the drill. Something tells us that there won't be any Valentines sent from Redmond to Cupertino, however.

Little by little I wish I didn't buy the Zune 80gb
by Faztang January 15, 2008 12:50 PM PST
I really am trying to like my Zune, really I am.
But the software blows (Windows Media Player is 10 times better), there is still no real video store available, and where the heck are the accesories (especially cases!). For years I have refused to drink the iPod Kool Aid. I have had three mp3 players, iRiver, Creative (the best), and now the Zune. I had $250 to spend and wanted high capacity (almost bought the ZEN) so I picked the Zune over the iPod Classic. Oh if I just gave in and bought the Classic I would actually be able to have a case with a belt clip and would be able to rent movies on my mp3 player. Damn Damn Damn. OK Microsoft you got 11 more months to win me over, otherwise this thing is going onto ebay. Red Zune big deal!!! Announce something exciting!

Zune cases

Are Easy to find. I've seen them everywhere from Best Buy to Wal Mart to Buy.com, both with and without belt clips. Plus, who cares about "renting" videos to watch, when the Zune software can convert the video I already have. And, bad as the Zune software is, it is MILES better than iTunes.

Plus the Zune, as a product, is just more solidly built. The iPod is a toy. The Zune is a tool.

Hurple post a link from BestBuy or Walmart that has a beltclip case for the Zune. Buy.com only offers the ugly, girly style leather case from Zune.net. They are not everywhere. I found one no name brand from China posted on ebay that had a belt clip, that's it. As for video you can do the same thing with an iPod, and an $80 TV tuner with DVR software.
Ever try to convert a tv show with media center to play on the zune? A 2 hour movie takes two hours to transfer!!
Listen I'm just saying it has great potential as a video viewer, they should have the option in place by now to offer shows and movies in the Zune Marketplace. Their #1 competitor does.

After 5 years, Firefox faces new challenges

Mozilla helped reshape the Web since releasing Firefox 1.0 five years ago. Now it's got a reawakened Microsoft and Google Chrome to reckon with.

There's a map for that: GPS or smartphone?
