Nokia will have touch-screen mobile phones in the future--that much we know from its announcement recently about S60 (Symbian Series60) handsets supporting touch-sensitive displays. What is less known, however, is that the Finnish giant had filed patent documents for such phones dating back to May 2006.

In the document discovered by Unwired View on the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office site, Nokia envisioned a device with two screens to display different kinds of information depending on the angle at which the clamshell is opened. Control of the device is possible using either the buttons or the display.

Guess Nokia's dropped the ball...
by HooHaa November 26, 2007 10:42 AM PST
Probably too married to the awfulness that is current cell phone design to dare
create anything too cool. Either way, I'm sure the UI on such a device will suck
ass.

There's a reason there's only one iPhone: It's not easy to create a cool device
that's actually usable.

For something that hasn't even made it to market, your condemnation of the UI is a wee bit premature... don'tcha think?

But then again, what more can be expected from an Apple Fanboi?

Um... you're implying that the iPhone is an original device, but it's not. Many devices had the same design concept and touch screen, like the LG Prada WHICH DOESN'T GET ENOUGH CREDIT. The only reason the iPhone got so much attention is because of the fact that it came from Apple.

First of all, the iphone is not even a new implementation of new technology, nor is it the only device with a good UI. It is simply the most advertised and therefore overhyped. Also, this reminds me of a concept firs seen with NTT DoCoMo, a Japanese WCDMA and 1seg provider which had one ordinary tft and one touchscreen. And you morons need to open your eyes and stop following crapple like it's your god or something. There has not been an original apple device for a decade. Apple only buys their technology anyway.
