ZuneOriginals: Free Zune customization

ZuneOriginals.net will offer free customization of the new Zune MP3 players.

CoolHunting broke the news on Microsoft's planned ZuneOriginals Web site, which launches tomorrow (November 13). The site will act as a direct online retail outlet allowing customers to order either the 4GB, 8GB, or 80GB version of the new Zune MP3 player, customized with one of 27 original graphics produced by 18 artists. If the fact that Microsoft managed to round-up 18 legitimately amazing artists to design custom Zune graphics isn't jaw-dropping enough for you, the fact that the laser-etched graphics are offered for free is downright flabbergasting. Throw in the fact that Microsoft is providing a free v2.0 firmware update to first-gen Zune owners, and that's a whole lot of love from the Zune camp. Let's hope this sparks some Apple jealousy. I really wouldn't mind a Classic firmware update on my 5G iPod, along with some snappy graphics. Where's the love, Apple?

At last - the Zune is cool!
by Roobedoo November 12, 2007 5:39 AM PST
I love these funky Zunes. The Zune is actually fairly nice to use, just let down by the rather droll looks. Can it compete with the iPod as a style icon even with flashy overhauls like this? Hhhmmm, not sure.

Are iPods really that cool looking?
by seanh1231 November 13, 2007 9:29 AM PST
To be honest I have never found the iPod to be the most beautiful device out there. To me it looks fairly bland and in general, has not really evolved substantially over its entire lifespan, at least from a physical stand point. The new Zune on the other hard looks very stylish and unique, not to mention the features it has over the iPod and the huge screen. Not that I have anything against iPod, I just think that there are other music players out there with a similar mix of style and functionality, and the Zune happens to be among the best in my opinion.

The reason you find the ipod bland

Because you see it everywhere and you no longer find it interesting

FREE?! i would have actually paid for those. they look really nice. Hope some
colour ones come too (although it is laser etched). and maybe one where you
can design yourself.

After 5 years, Firefox faces new challenges

Mozilla helped reshape the Web since releasing Firefox 1.0 five years ago. Now it's got a reawakened Microsoft and Google Chrome to reckon with.

There's a map for that: GPS or smartphone?

Almost every handset comes with mapping software these days, but standalone GPS devices are becoming more affordable than ever.
