Apple, Sony photos: Coincidence?

An excellent item last month comparing the desktop designs of Apple and Sony by our colleague Matthew Elliott drew some of the most reader comments seen on Crave in months. We won't wade into that territory again but wanted to pass along this item from Engadget Japanese to show that we're hardly the only ones to draw parallels between the two companies.

Engadget says the photos are "official, un-doctored press shots from both Apple and Sony" of an older iPod Nano and the new Sony Cyber-shot released yesterday, respectively. Even the colors and position of the gravity-defying gadgets are the same. Coincidence? It may be time to call in Oliver Stone.

Sony Advertising....

Maybe coincidence but maybe the same marketing ppl did work on both. However it is rather awesome for 2 products be almost the same color. Sony is no dummy its smart marketing to see like colors on 2 everyday household items such as: Digital cameras and iPod's . Why not ?<br />But they do look very similar but oh well there hot and will sell. I like both, Sony and Apple always have hot products....

Same ad agency

Like the other poster noted, this is likely the result of the same ad agency doing both promos.<br /><br />I work for a multimedia house and I cannot tell you how many times we reuse templates and basic concepts for simple one-offs like this.<br /><br />The only real coincidence, a big one, is the colors (although the ipod is silver and the sony is white).<br /><br />But then again, that's probably what inspired the designer to reuse the concept.
