Rumor of the day: New slim MacBooks coming soon

by Dan Ackerman

9to5mac.com sees new slim laptops in Apple's future.

Since we can't seem to go more than 10 minutes without some kind of Apple news, it's not surprising that another round of Mac rumors are making their way across the Interwebs this morning.

According to the Web site 9to5mac.com, which correctly called the new iPod Nano design last month, Apple is planning a new line of super slim laptops, with a sleek aluminum design. They offer the following predictions:

  • Black aluminum and silver aluminum (like MacBook Pros)
  • Considerably slimmer than current MacBook and even the MacBook Pro
  • The screen reaches much closer to the edges than current MacBooks, but is the same size as current MacBooks--indicating a somewhat smaller footprint
  • The keyboards resemble Apple's new Bluetooth Keyboard
  • There is something strange about the touchpad (more on this to come)
  • They are set to be priced extremely aggressively
  • While they are dense, overall they are lighter than the current MacBooks

We'll keep our ears to the ground for more rumors, and hopefully a few leaked spy shots, in the coming weeks.

Look for multitouch aware track pads on the new MacBook Pros.

I was under the impression that it was only going to be the macbooks updated in the foreseeable future, since the current Pros aren't that old?
Do you know of something that we don't?

OMG !! I am waiting for Leopard to come out so I can buy my Mac laptop, but after reading this post, I have to wait longer...

Steve, if these laptops exist, move and release them because I can't wait any longer!!!

I am waiting for Leopard as well, but I don't think I can wait any longer. This seems like a whole new line since the other laptops were just updated, maybe to address the ultra-portable line. I don't want an ultra-portable because I don't need it, but I do want all the new technologies that come with it.

A student I know at Full Sail (well known film, art, music school in Orlando) is
already using one. Perhaps the school is under some agreement with Apple? He
told me a couple weeks ago when the fall term started.
