Verizon recently launched the Wireless Coupe, a UTStarcom handset that comes with three unique emergency speed-dial buttons underneath the internal display. The buttons spell out ICE (In Case of Emergency) and provide instant access to 911 and two other emergency phone numbers you can assign yourself. The Wireless Coupe (I don't get it--is there a Wireless Sedan phone somewhere I'm not aware of?) is otherwise a pretty basic phone--no camera or Bluetooth, for example--but this is clearly meant for those who just want a phone around for emergency's sake. The phone is available for $20 with a two-year contract.

Drop EVERYTHING Verizon
by zoesgarden September 6, 2007 7:57 PM PDT
I'm making it my mission in life to warn as many people as possible to STAY
away from anything with the name Verizon on it. I have never HATED a
company in so many ways that I'm shaking with anger. I'm tired of being
billed for calls I never made. I'm tired of NEVER getting the service I paid for
and am hereby dropping their internet service as soon as the contract is
up...in a few blessed days! Oh JOY!!! I have heard that they will continue to
bill me for the rest of my natural life and possibly my heirs. I may have to
change bank accounts to keep them from stealing anything more from me. I
have already returned a cell phone that I NEVER used, two days after getting it
and then coming to my senses....and am still being billed. First $97 and now
$124, even though I have the reciept that shows I owe them NOTHING. So,
stay away from these financial rapists and go with ANY other company. I'm
thinking...what they heck, AT and T has been around awhile....every since my
grandmother was a telephone operator just after the turn of the century...oh,
the last one.
