No, this isn't from today's Main Event. But as the Apple hype machine churns at full throttle before the opening act, it's only natural for people to dream.
To wit: The "iRing" is an ingenious concept that combines fashion jewelry and iPod control with built-in Bluetooth technology to adjust volume and playback. Following the iPhone's touch-screen influence, it has touch-sensitive "function strip" too--though we wonder how practical it is for a piece of hand jewlery to have that feature, as it would seem to get bumped around a bit and might accidentally blast your eardrums out of your skull.
But the cradle is a good idea to avoid losing it, which is bound to happen. And that would be disastrous, because we're certain that more than a few fan boys and girls would wear them as wedding rings.
When an industrial designer is done with his design proposal (e.g. the 3D drawings) the next step is the actual development process involving an engineering team.
If this was a new design aimed for a company who wanted to produce it, the drawings would be confidential. Many industrial designers have non confidential designs they use to advertise their skills and this is a good example of something fairly impressive in that category.
I like the idea but even if someone started to develop it today it would not be available anywhere before next year at the earliest.
Many people get confused by this type of article. Please make it clear if this is just a design concept that has no real CE company behind it.
This would be really cool if they actually made this, and ipods had bluetooth on them.
