An Archos press event in France has revealed the new Archos line a mere hours before an event is scheduled to take place in the United States. Since neither I nor the folks at Engadget (I'm guessing) can be completely trusted with our French translation, I have relatively few details to confirm. I can tell you the company is launching a new flash player, the 2GB 105, as well as a revamped PVP line, including the 405, the 705, and the 605 WiFi. We'll have some more information here on Crave after the U.S. event.

Update: I just spoke with one of our New York editors who attended the U.S. announcement, and he told me something pretty exciting: the new 605 WiFi is going to have onboard support for CinemaNow, meaning you can purchase and download movies on the go without connecting to a computer. That player will also support Opera with Flash video, so you will never be without fresh video content from sites like YouTube. Um...sweet! (Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the iPhone can do that.) Stay tuned for a separate post, which will include plenty of specs to whet your appetite.

For more than five years, Jasmine France has covered a variety of tech products for CNET--from scanners to keyboards to GPS devices--but she's happiest where she is now: sitting atop a pile of MP3 players, "testing" every music service known to man, and jamming a variety of earbuds in every shape and color into her absurdly small ears. Archos 605wifi is THE iPhone Killer
by Globorover June 15, 2007 3:25 AM PDT
Sure the much hyped iPhone will herd the sheep but anybody in the know will be getting an Archos 605wifi. The iPhone cannot stream YouTube videos, the 605wifi can. iPhone would be dead in the water already if it wasn't pushed by such a slick marketing machine as Apple's. Just hope Archos, who have been quitely leading the PMP field for years make it into the big time with this superb new product line.

You're a retard, it's not even in the iPhone's league. Have you noticed that the Archos605 isn't a cell phone? Didn't think so. Damn moron.

Hottest MP3 Prospect
by cjohnbrown June 15, 2007 1:50 PM PDT
This is not a iPhone killer which is hard to say as a Archos owner and being anti ipod but I give the phone its credit for being Hot. But for an mp3 player nothing has or does beat an archos and with the new features on the 605 once again archos sets the trend in mp3 player. Most people forget the iPhone is only on one carrier and for those on every other carrier we will still need mp3 players. Hell You can watch flash and download movies. I got a phone and now I will soon have the hottest PVP soon. Archos steadily kicks but and that iPhone is going to be buggy and cost alot, and by this time next year your provider will have a phone just like this by a company thats not Apple.

Not an iPhone killer yet.

I have an Archos 604 Wifi but it is definately not an iPhone killer...yet. As it is not a mobile phone (cell phone), if a service like Skype was partnered with the 605 wifi, you will still need wifi coverage to make and recieve calls.

But there may be a way, for more info read this, http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?t=4933, the last comment.

Lets hope that this player defies the other Archos line in audio quality, the 4th gen player had some cruddy audio quality.
