So where is the 8GB iRiver Clix?

It's coming, I swear. I've gotten several e-mails lately asking about the status of the 8GB version of the iRiver Clix, most of them concerned that its existence on the site was a mistake. Apparently, iRiver customer service has responded to individuals stating that they "don't make an 8GB version." Well, it's not available yet, but it will be. My contacts have confirmed that the device will go on sale in the States sometime "this summer," once iRiver has perfected the Rhapsody DNA integration. Apparently, the company wants to launch the 8GB Clix with co-branded packaging. No word on whether there will be any design tweaks, such as the red band shown in the Clixhere image pictured here. Regardless, the gist is this: if you want an 8GB Clix, hold out for a couple more months--it's a-comin'!

E-mail Jasmine.

What is the status of IRiver as a company?
by user112720 June 20, 2007 11:30 AM PDT
Hi Jasmine! Great review of the U20 Clix 2. We bought one, it arrived yesterday and we love it.... So much, we're ready to buy another one (ideally the 8 gb). But, I have some concern about iRiver. When I spoke with tech support, I asked if they were iRiver and they said they 'took over.' They also said that they don't know what happened to iRiver. This coincides with a statement that, supposedly, iRiver made about getting out of the mp3 player business. I'm waiting for a supervisor to call me back from there. My concern is that iRiver will no longer be supporting the product and I don't know who or much about the ones that will be taking over. Could you check on this and give us an update? I'm sure with the great cnet review, many will buy this on faith alone, believing iRiver in the US is stable. This may or may not be true. Thanks so much! It is an absolutely amazing product! All the best to everyone, Andrea
