Does your phone need a vibrating wristband?

by Mike Yamamoto

Being of the knee-jerk variety here at Crave, we usually don't have much trouble deciding if something sounds like a good or bad idea. This is one of the exceptions.

The "BlueQ" Bluetooth wristband is supposed to vibrate when you're getting a call but can't hear the phone ring, according to I4U News. Got it. Wait--isn't that what the phone's vibrate function is for?

OK, so it could come in handy if you've stowed the phone in a purse or briefcase to avoid dirty looks from fellow patrons at the opera. But in that case, wouldn't a clunky wristband clash with your formal attire? Granted, something like this could be useful when your phone is in the backpack at the movies, but even then we're not sure it's worth $40 if you can just stick the handset in your pocket and set it to vibrate.

I might like this because...
by jeffala May 18, 2007 5:47 AM PDT
Sometimes when I'm in a meeting I have my phone on a stack of papers and
more papers on top of that and I don't notice when the phone is vibrating. This
would be a nifty alert.

I think this sounds great!

I am always missing my phone calls when I am out at a bar/club because my motoQ is too big for my pocket but too soft to be heard/felt through my purse...and a black wristband is no uglier than the 21+ bands most places make you wear these days.

definitely use

I have a obnoxious sidekick that I use while working everyday on a construction
site. I am constantly getting calls from clients and workers, but because I'm on a
work site, I need to keep my phone in the case that came with it. The ambient
noise is too loud to hear the ringer, and the leather case unfortunately absorbs
most of the vibration (at least for me), so I am forced to miss quite a few calls
every day. Something like this would definitely get used by me, and I'm sure I
can talk most of the site's crews into using it as well- provided it works as well
as it sounds.

I just might pick this up

I have an older Audiovox 6600, and I ride my bicycle a lot. The phone is too big to fit in a generic bike-mounted PDA holder, and in the hot summer months I sweat too much to put it in my jersey pocket. So it stays in my bike bag and I miss calls. This just might work. But I'm going to hold off until the new Samsung smartphones hit the market and see if they fit on my bike anywyere.

Great product but too obtrusive
by Thomas7779 May 21, 2007 9:18 AM PDT
I am hard of hearing and would definitely get a lot of use out of this product. My phone ringer is obnoxiously loud, so I usually have to use the vibrate feature in public. I miss a l lot of calls because it can be hard to detect the vibration through my pockets while I'm walking or otherwise preoccupied. HOWEVER, that being said, I don't think I can get away with wearing this without looking like a super-geek. What it needs is to be featured as a watch wristband (for Timex or some such brand) so that I can get phone vibrations without having to wear yet another apparatus on my person. So until something less obvious comes out, I am unfortunately not going to buy this.

Why Not Put it Around Your Leg Or Ankle?
by Joshua_Tylor May 21, 2007 11:52 AM PDT
Sure youll feel like your in prison or house arrest but if your out to dinner in a nice club and you check your purse and coat youll still know when you have a phone call.
I like this idea, but can you have more than one bluetooth device connected to your phone at once?
i know my phone cant.
it would be nice if a bluetooth ear peice and this device could be connected at the same time.
Or just make an ear peice that vibrates. :o)
Good product overall though, you never know what this can
be used for, At the Gym, Playing Basketball, etc.. you name it.
