T-Mobile gets kudos

(Credit: T-Mobile)

T-Mobile has done it again: J.D. Power and Associates recently ranked the carrier as No. 1, for the fifth time in a row, for providing the highest level of overall customer satisfaction. J.D. Power's 2007 Wireless Regional Customer Satisfaction Index found that T-Mobile ranks ahead of Cingular/AT&T, Alltel, U.S. Cellular, Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel in three of six regions surveyed: the Northeast, the West and the Southwest. In the Mid-Atlantic area, T-Mobile tied with Verizon, and in the Southeast, the carrier tied with Alltel. There was a four-way tie in the North Central region between T-Mobile, Cingular/AT&T, Alltel, U.S. Cellular and Verizon. Poor Alaska and Hawaii didn't even get to participate.

...and service doesn't suck. It depends on your handset. My sister had one of the first Samsung camera phones, and it got basically no service no matter where you were. then she got a Nokia 6101 and it was MUCH better. As a Dash owner, I found that i was getting service in places I thought were dead zones. So Verizon's claim of "it's the network" isn't entirely true...

...but it does have a grain of truth to it. like most cellular users of nearly any carrier, I find service spotty on the north shore and in the Smithtown and Commack areas. This typically has to do with zoning regulations of those areas. You're not gonna find a Smithtown or Northport resident who wants a cell tower in their backyard. Commack is a dead zone for everything - including standard broadcast FM radio.

I'll also resonate with the guy before who said that customer service cannot be beat in any support center i've ever called. EVERY time I call, someone's there, speaks fluent English, sounds happy to help you, and will do whatever they can to work the system in your favor. between that, their GSM phone selection, tolerance to hacking your phone, and competitive pricing, I don't really foresee myself leaving the plan any time soon.

and THAT'S how they win.

T-Mobile DESERVED the win
by jsdavis April 19, 2007 3:45 PM PDT
i switched to t-mobile back in October and have LOVED it so far. I live in Nashville, TN and the coverage is fine.

Kozo, i don't think you can judge a carrier (any of them) by how their coverage is in your area alone. You have to look at the big picture.

One thing to be said about t-mobile is how superior their customer service is. If you ever have to call them, they sound like they're actually happy to get to talk to you. THAT will keep me coming back to any provider.

Tmobile Deserves Nothing

I live in Nashville too. I can always pick out who has a tmobile phone when I talk to them. Voice quality is poor. I think Tmobile customers are acustomed to low quality.
..of course T-Mobile sucks
by ZX3Junglist April 19, 2007 9:17 PM PDT
But it sucks the least.

I know since I've dealt with nearly all of them. Their policies, salespeople, and CSRs are the most "human" and don't explicitly try to exploit your wallet. Try THAT with AT&Tingular!

I'm in the Northeast (no, not in east cupcake, vermont either...) in Mass. and T-Mobile sucks. We had them come into our company before deciding to adopt BlackBerry and their "representatives" were about as knowledgeable as the 18 year olds slinging phones at the mall kiosk. Verizon may gouge $$ for extras, but ultimately all I need is the damn phone to work- period. For those of us who need solid phone service, turn away from the "T."

T-Mobile Sucks Again!
by Brotha2DaNight April 20, 2007 7:30 AM PDT
I live in Baltimore and I vowed never to go back to T-mobile b/c of their customer service. They tried to charge me for 6 months while they supposedly tried to fix my sidekick rather than just upgrading to the sidekick 2 even after I offered to pay the difference. Although my sidekick was still under warranty. They passed me around to everyone. I threaten to sue b/c I canceled a long time ago when they couldn't fix my phone. After which they sent a letter of apology they weren't sorry they didn't want me to sue and call the better business on them.

T-Mobile...Sucking machine extradinaire
by akito13 April 20, 2007 9:10 AM PDT
I've had the run around with T-Mobile before and they just plain suck. I remember the only phone I ever had with them was the first color Motorola clam shell phone and for some reason it kept powering off on me. They freaking wouldn't send me a replacement phone insisting that I take it to a service center at their stores. Even they didn't know how to look for the problem with the phone there. They told me to call for a replacement. Shouldn't they call for me seeing as they are standing there taking money from my wallet? The problem was sorta resolved after 6 phone changes and a lot of headaches. I gave up and finally switched over to Verizon. Nothing but bliss at the moment.

Now, I'm not sure how these idiots that judge this crap do it but if they look at the service map and ask the people that are in good coverage areas on the map, I'm sure most will complain about it being bad. I wouldn't be surprised that these were rigged in some way due to some palm greasing by T-Mobile.

what's wrong with t-mobile winning???
by Shags007 April 20, 2007 1:35 PM PDT
I've had t-mobile for 5 years and never experienced a problem. They're coverage has definitely improved over the last year and the customer service is by far the best. Just b/c you can't get coverage in your basement like i can and have to pay way more for the same services; don't take it out on t-mobile.

T-Mobile Wins Again
by vampyreman April 20, 2007 3:21 PM PDT
I have had T-Mobile since 1999 and I must say that I'm quite happy with their service. I must admit that at one time years ago, their coverage area was not great and I considered switching. I looked at several carriers and for the plan I had and what I used my phone for, no one could come close. I travel nationwide and I have excellent coverage. I have a Blackberry device and I have had wonderful service with it. T-Mobile has given me outstanding customer service over the years and I have absolutely no plans of ever leaving! Coverage has much improved as well.

All I can say is, Congratulations T-Mobile!

I've been with them for 5 years. They have the best customer service. Period. That's the only reason I haven't switched to AT&T for the iphone.

I have an unusual account. Unlimited family plan, numbers in SF, LA, and Miami. Up until today was on unlimited voice and SMS. Cost $100 + $50 + $50. (BB was/is $20/line extra) I also was getting a 12% discount offered to a group i belong to.

Wanted to get on special SF unlimited plan which just went into effect. Won't go into details, but the CS person tried, but couldn't get the system to accept me. He was frustrated because he couldn't figure out why the system was rejecting me. I thanked him for his time (he must have spent close to 10 minutes). Didn't think anything further.

FIVE minutes later got a call from T-M. The woman said she found what the problem was, and if I wouldn't mind, she could tsfr me to someone who could "solve" it. She got someone on the line who said that he could remove me from the group discount i was getting and that would allow the system to give me the new rates offered to long term customers in SF. He did, tsfrd. me back to "regular" CS who quickly logged me on to the new rates. Unlimited voice for 3 lines for $130!!

I have been w. T-M for 10+ years - long before it was known as T-Mobile.
