Outage hits California Cingular customers
The carrier's network experiences a major problem as customers are unable to make calls.

It's not Friday the 13th yet, but Cingular Wireless customers in Northern California have been hit with an outage that has shut down the carrier's network. As of 6pm PST today, customers aren't able to dial from their phones and calls to some Cingular customers aren't going through either. A few people have told us that it's even impossible to call customer service from their phones. Of course that makes things a bit tricky when you need to call customer service to get information about the problem.
While we're unclear as to the scope of the problem, a Cingular customer service rep did confirm that the company was looking into the outage, but she was unable to tell us what was causing it or when it might be fixed.
