It always weirds me out a little bit when companies come up with "traditional" toys based on video games. You know, like that Nintendo Monopoly board game from a few months back. Now, according to Kotaku, Nintendo has officially licensed a Mario Kart race track. I suppose this is the company's way of reaching out to an audience that might be too young for video games, so that it can indoctrinate them into the Cult of Nintendo.

I suppose a parallel example would be if Apple released a toy iPod for little kids. That'd be weird, right? I thought so.

Slot cars are awesome. Every time I pass the Nintendo World store up at Rockefeller Center, I feel the urge to drop the cash on it. Of course, doing so would make me a complete idiot, but the compulsion is still there.

Now if it had a loop, or one of those parts that goes up the wall, it would be no contest.

Too young for Nintendo?

I'm not sure when others start their kids with Nintendo, but my 3 year old loves our wii. She bowls a 107 in Wii sports and she's training in Tennis. Perhaps one day I'll actually get myself off the couch and take her to the bowling ally.
