Craving NYC: Why did the iPod cross the street?

Well, this week we're doing something a little different with the video blog--not only do I experiment with taping in our lovely CNET lounge, but I also run around with the camcorder, catch my co-workers off guard, and ask them stuff about a pretty hot topic in local tech.

A New York state senator, Carl Krueger, D-Brooklyn, is introducing legislation that will effectively ban the use of iPods, cell phones, BlackBerrys, PSPs, and so on, while crossing city streets. Naturally, some people have some relatively interesting stuff to say about it all.

Bonus points if you can name the CNET editors and writers who make cameo appearances!

Y'know, maybe this congressman has a point...

...'cause if you noticed during the crossing-the-street footage, our lovely Miss Caroline was CROSSING AGAINST THE FRICKIN' LIGHT!!! Yeah, I know it's New York City, where pedestrians have to be urban commandos to survive, but if you're not even gonna pay attention to the walk/don't-walk signs, aren't you proving this dweeb's point?

Maybe you should clear your head also

Ok so listening to an i-pod is dangerous while crossing the street. I propose setting up a quiet area at every intersection, something in line like a lounge with waterfalls and someone to give massages. That way all the cobwebs are out of your brain so you are not thinking at all as you cross the street-oops I just got hit I was too relaxed...

What's next?

I think it's ridiculous that they're actually proposing a law for this. What are they gonna do next? Make it against the law to cross the street if you don't look both ways? I mean sure people should be paying attention when they're crossing, but making a law for it is a bit extreme.

They Have a point but..

..Its a little ridiculous to ban these things all together. The problem is is that
there is no real way to solve this without some kind of controversy. But maybe
they could make a law that they have to pause their iPod or stop playing with
their blackberry just when they are crossing the street? Although, you cant get a
cop to stand at every street corner to regulate that. Its just a thought.

In the lounge or in your cubicle?

Well you could do it here, or you can do it there. You can do it anywhere. In a boat on a house with a cat or a... or a... hmm. Ah heck should never try to rhyme when I haven't slept enough. Seriously you are adorable. Yes you are, very.

Anyways I was previously going to say that I doubt that crossing against the light while doing a video blog will help ipod owners win their case that technology items are not a distraction on the street, but just for the record though, I think thats one stupid @$$ proposal. Oh yeah and Caroline, don't wrry bout your hair, you look cute no matter what.

More lighting...

I think the lobby is a much better environment to film in due to better lighting and less distractions, but frankly it's you, not the background that is worth watching.
