Xbox 360s might be getting a bit more quiet. According to the Xbox-scene.com forum, Microsoft has started putting new DVD drives in its Xbox 360s. The forum says that Microsoft is now using BenQ-LiteOn-Phillips VAD6038 optical drives in new 360s, rather than the Toshiba-Samsung and Hitachi-LG drives the consoles previously used.

This new drive might mean quieter gameplay on the 360. Many gamers had complaints that first-run Xbox 360s were uncomfortably loud, and this new optical drive could fix that.

The following product mentioned is available.

take a look at xbox forum and search for "close/open tray" or cannot read disc. You will be amazed at all the literally hundreds of people having this same problem. When you call to get it fixed they, the supervisor randy, says he could care less! Also note that once we all pay for shipping there when it comes back it still does not work. I strongly urge all people to beware about buying this product. as to your remark above that you are sure microsoft would correct the problem...double check your sources. Seems microsoft has a on going problem of not correcting problems with their products. Seriously, some body has to get this out to major press and break this story. In the one month i first looked what was wrong with our xbox 360 and there were over a hundred same complaints. Think about the mailing cost to Texas from Japan..and like mine it was still under warranty!! Then to have the supervisor just laugh in your face and say so what!! Some one please break this story!!
