Despite the CES brouhaha happening simultaneously in Las Vegas, Steve Jobs appeared onstage at his Macworld 2007 keynote in San Francisco to introduce one of the most anticipated gadgets in years. The final unveiling of the iPhone puts to rest the plethora of speculation, gossip, and rumors that have littered the Web for the last year. Read on for our first thoughts of the ballyhooed new phone for Cingular.

Why Cingular?
by peterh_oz January 9, 2007 7:32 PM PST
Because most of the world uses GSM - the 2nd biggest CDMA market was Australia (although it was mainly used by farmers, not city people). I say "was" because it is shutting down to be replaced by 3.5G over the next 12 months.
ok...whats new?

Do you have a problem with cingular?
It is a wonderful device, BUT!

I think it is a great device, I have a couple of concerns though. the screen will scratch and scuff, how will this be dealt with?
With the upsurge in video will 8GB be enough storage; I don't think so, and no expansion slot??
It is a bit on the pricey side, and alas will be taken up by the people who can afford it. Which is only about 1% of the market.
I will wait for the next generation, which may have ironed out the bugs.

IPHONE ROCKS-BUT CINGULAR OH NO!!!!

I love everything about the it, defenitly takes cell phones to the next level with all it's eye opening features. Now getting to Cingular, the head guy from Cingular couldn't even speak from the heart at the Keynote he had to read from cards. What is that all about and why would Steve pick Cingular? I've been with Cingular and did not have a great experience. T-Mobile would have been a better choice.

iPhone - Long Time to Wait - Wrong Provider
by bzaffino January 10, 2007 8:51 AM PST
I've waited a year for the iPhone. Why Cingular? I won't switch to this provider. I don't hear rave reviews about them. Apple needs to let all the wireless providers join in. What makes Cingular the best choice? I will wait until they have a better selection of providers.

Apple didn't pick Cingular. Cingular picked Apple. If you remember how much the Motorola Rokr sucked (which was a phone with iTunes in it), Cingular decided to still go with Apples new product, even though they haven't even seen it yet. Please watch the keynote as Jobs explains why Cingular. Don't jump to conclusions.
