Palm and Cingular officially launch Palm Treo 750

Well, well, well, looky here: CES 2007 hasn't even officially started, and we already have a hot little product announcement: the Palm Treo 750 for Cingular. Actually, as per usual, this news wasn't much of a secret; details of the release leaked onto the Web prior to the show. Plus, we were expecting to see this Windows-based Treo drop before the holidays, but after delays with carrier certification, the launch was pushed back till after the new year, and CES is certainly the place to debut it (after all, it served as the backdrop for the Treo 700w release last year).

We had the opportunity to check out the device for a few days before today's announcement, and here's what we thought in a nutshell. It's a solid Windows Mobile in a new, slimmer package and with a few nice enhancements, including world phone capabilities, threaded chat view, and support for Cingular's 3G UMTS network. However, at $399.99 with a two-year contract, it's a teensy bit expensive in our opinion, especially when you consider that, for the same price, the Cingular 8525 offers HSPDA support, integrated Wi-Fi, a 2-megapixel camera, a vibrant screen--all of which the Treo 750 lacks--and more. I don't know about you, but the 8525 sounds like a better deal to me.
