Volkswagen is not really known for its off-road prowess, but that might be about to change with a new series of VW-branded sleds for kids. The snazzy snow-skimmers, which boast steering wheels and padded seats, come in a choice of trims inspired by VW favorites such as the GTI and the Beetle. There are no details on whether or not the sleds have brakes or whether they will come fitted with VW's steering impulse system, but they sure will have other parents glowering with envy on the slopes.

Breaks are visible in product image.

The silver curved handles with red pivot points function as breaks.

Athletic and adventurous sledders should lean towards the Mad River Rocket. It's a superior product.

The VW sled is clearly a more comfortable ride, and less od an enthusiast/snowboarder sled that the MRR. I'd rather have it anytime, for me or the kids. Besides, it would look great in the back of my Touareg.

Breaks...oh Yeah!?

Man... what is with the "dumbing down" of America? "Breaks," instead of "brakes." Puhleeze! Leave your sled and home and read a book for chrissake! No wonder VW has to make even the lowly snow sled for our failing workforce, and their dumb offspring. Lots of American youth are too dumb to assemble their shiny American made Red Ryder wooden sleds. They want a one piece slab of plastic like the one submitted by the dropout who wrote his comment to ride down the hill behind the schoolhouse they never paid attention in, or read a book in. It's no wonder I see twenty-year-olds on the street on skateboards. No one would hire the uneducated idiots.

I was browsing cnet on my lunch hour and happened to run across this message board. FSONLINE, get a life. Why are you choosing a message board about a sled to comment on the educational state of America. I rode a skateboard around town all the time while I was in college just a couple years ago, and now I'm an engineer with a 6 figure salary. It's morons like you that make stereotypical snap judgements about people that are the real disgrace in this country, not kids on skateboards.
