The Wii-port from NYC: T minus 6 hours

New Yorkers wait for Nintendo's new console.

NEW YORK--Let me tell you, it's a very different scene from the PlayStation 3 launch on Thursday night. The official Nintendo Wii launch site, at the Toys 'R' Us store in Times Square (yeah, the one with a fully ride-able Ferris wheel inside) has only had a line in front of it for about 24 hours. When I told a few of the kids in line that I'd covered the PS3 launch and talked to fans who'd waited about 80 hours for Sony's console, one of them rolled his eyes and said, "We're not like those freaks."
