Electric muscle car of the future

Crave's car tech experts warned us not to get too excited about this because it's only a concept model, but we couldn't resist. The photos alone are just too delicious to pass up.

The proposed electric Audi R-Zero, which Treehugger says was created by three students at France's International School of Design, looks like something right out of a sci-fi movie. In fact, some sharp-eyed readers have noted its similarities to another Audi concept developed for the 2004 movie "I, Robot."

Its proposed specs are equally fantastic, with four in-wheel motors that would supposedly yield "a top speed of 286 mph, 1091 horsepower, and 0-62 in 3 seconds." Real or not, we'd still rather linger over its renderings than view real photos of some green alternatives now on the market.

Tesla Roadster EV available now
by EV Lover October 19, 2006 1:37 PM PDT
The concept Audi electric vehicle (EV) is beautiful! As with dozens of past EV concepts, prototypes and production cars, it's more likely to be crushed than mass-produced.
EVs are available: Tesla Motors has already pre-sold 200 of its hot new Roadster EV. It does 0-60 mph in four seconds and can go 250 miles per charge; the Roadster EV is pricey, but Tesla plans to build more-affordable EVs in the next few years. Commuter Cars, Phoenix Motor Cars and others are now offering their highway-capable EVs as well.
