To the delight of many gamers at E3 on Monday, EA DICE showed off Star Wars Battlefront -- a next-generation "Star Wars" video game that uses the Frostbite 3 graphics engine. DICE uses the same graphics engine in Battlefield 4.
As the 30-second trailer kicks off, you can clearly see a snowy tundra on the ice planet Hoth, presumably set during the battle seen in "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back," or perhaps a different time in the canon.
Accompanied by heavy breathing and limping, the first-person angle indicates the protagonist nears death, but that soon takes a backseat to the familiar sound of laser beams and the chaos of a Rebel T-47 airspeeder crashing within close proximity. Moments later, a monster AT-AT foot stomps nearby and the clip ends, undoubtedly leaving the viewer excited, yet curious about the future of the Battlefront franchise.
Star Wars Battlefront is one of the first games shown off by Electronic Arts after the company acquired an exclusive multiyear publishing license from "Star Wars" owner Disney. No release date or other details about Battlefront were announced.
