Sometimes one monitor is not enough, and over the years, MimoMonitors has provided an easy way to add extra screen real estate with its line of USB-powered monitors for desktops and laptops. Now, the company is taking it to the next level with what it says is the world's first USB capacitive touch screen.
Available in two models, the Mimo Magic Touch and Mimo Magic Touch Deluxe are less than 1 inch thick and weigh less than 1 pound. Both feature 10-inch, 1,024x600 resolution displays and connect to your PC or Mac via a USB 2.0 connection. The Deluxe model also includes two mini-USB ports and a separate AC power adapter, so you can hook up other devices and charge them.
With touch capabilities and the ability to use them undocked, Mimo imagines the monitors can be used in a variety of ways, both at home and in business. Some examples include using them as a video-conferencing console, a retail point-of-sales system, a remote control for your home entertainment system, or an extra peripheral for social networking, Web browsing, and more.
That said, there is a catch. Only PCs running Windows 7 will be able to take advantage of the capacitive touch screen; if you're using a computer that runs Windows Vista/XP/2000 or if you're using a Mac, the Magic Touch acts as a display-only monitor.
Preorders start tomorrow and delivery is expected before Christmas. The Magic Touch costs $299.99, while the Magic Touch Deluxe will run you $329.99.
