HP debuts sub-$200 monitor
Hewlett-Packard unveils its LE2202x, a sub-$200, LED-based monitor.

(Credit: HP)LED-based monitors continue their march toward completely taking over the world, and Hewlett-Packard is one of many monitor vendors doing little to stop this.
In fact it's actively contributing to the conquest. Soon we'll all be using them, saving a couple dollars every year on power and what then, huh? What then?!
Well, I, for one, welcome our new LED-based overlords, hence this blog. Today, HP announced a number of IPS displays; this, however, is not one of them. The HP Compaq LE2202x is a 22-inch (with 21.5-inches of actual viewing space) display with an LED-based backlight and uses twisted nematic (TN) for its panel technology.
As LED-based monitors go, it's not nearly as thin as you'd expect and includes the bare basics when it comes to specs:
- 1,920x1,080-pixel resolution
- 5ms refresh rate
- 250 candelas per square meter brightness
- Connections: VGA, DVI-D
- 25-degree back tilt
- 1,000:1 contrast ratio
The LE2202x is expected to launch on September 19, starting at $179. At that price I may be willing to deal with narrow viewing angles and a lack of extras.
