Is this the new Nook Color?

A tipster has sent CNET a link to a page on the Barnes & Noble Web site that shows an accessory for the Nook Color. On the page, there's an image of a device that may be the new Nook.

A few days ago, we posted a story about Barnes & Noble's next-generation Nook e-reader, which an anonymous tipster claimed would be a $249 touch-screen, Android-based color e-reader called the Nook Color. Now a second tipster has alerted us to an image on Barnes & Noble's Web site that appears on a product page for the Nook Color Screen Film Kit, an accessory.

Little is said about the device and the image looks more like a mock-up than a professionally photographed product shot. But it seems fairly clear this is a touch-screen device, though the screen technology remains a mystery. Is it LCD or something a bit more exotic? We don't know.

Stay tuned. Barnes & Noble's Nook event is scheduled for this Tuesday afternoon, so we'll have full details--and better pictures--soon enough.

Note: Chances are the link to the Barnes & Noble Web page will be taken down quickly, so we apologize if the link is broken by the time you read this.
