One of our picks for 2009 game of the year was undoubtedly Batman: Arkham Asylum. Satisfying gameplay, a near-perfect fighting system, references to almost all the characters in the Batman universe, and a fantastic cast easily made it the best Batman game ever made.

Today we have word that Batman: Arkham City will hit Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in the fall of 2011. Judging from the cover shots of September's issue of GameInformer, the sequel looks like a grittier take on the franchise as a bloodied Batman poses with the game's new character, a uniquely envisioned Catwoman.
