Your future fuel tank

We reported earlier on GM's news that it plans to put the new Equinox fuel cell car on the road next year. Green Car Congress has a story about GM signing up Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide as its hydrogen fuel tank supplier. GM's 100 planned Equinoxes will get Quantum's tanks, which are made of lightweight materials and can hold 10,000 psi of pressure. The tanks come with valves that monitor pressure and have safety cutoffs, which would be activated if a crash is detected. Each Equinox will have three tanks, holding 9.25 pounds of hydrogen. That's right, in the future we'll be measuring our fuel by the pound, not by the gallon.

Price and other considerations
by nesretep November 7, 2006 6:05 AM PST
It's great that the car companies are looking into alternative fuels and such, but how affordable is that car going to be for the average american? And just how small is it, a 4-5 passenger car with very limited cargo space? Where are the alternative fuel cars for a family guy like me? I can't be the only one thinking this.

10,000 PSI ?!?

Talk about a bomb just waiting to go off and kill lots of people. Like all
environmentalist "solutions" this one's going to get people killed, too.

Look. All the carbon from fossil fuels was in the atmosphere at one point in
time. Putting it back will not result in the end of life as we know it, but driving
around with 3 10,000 psi cansiters could very well end your life as you know it.

It makes me sad that you are so ignorant

All the carbon in the CO2 we are pumping out might have been in the atmosphere at one point...but not all at once, as it is now. I'm not a hemp-wearing, deodorant-dissing hard-core environmentalist, but at least I'm smart enough to realize that the UNANIMOUS conclusion of all mainstream scientists is that human-caused global warming IS happening and is a serious threat. But, so too is ignorance a serious threat, because you don't have to be very smart to vote.
And gas tanks aren't dangerous?

Personally, I thought that comment was kinda funny. It's a bit like that association that was anti-Segway because Segways were supposedly really hazardous to other pedestrians. What about cars eh?
