Facebook coming to PS3?

Could these be the new PS3 dashboard?

Do you like the idea of checking status updates on a 50-inch LCD in the middle of Uncharted 2 sessions? Social media addicts, the next PS3 update just might be for you. Hidden photos on Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's Web site, that have since been taken down, point to a definitive and familiar blue logo showing up on Sony's PlayStation 3 dashboard. Whether or not this also means Twitter will be getting on the Black Box of Blu-ray is uncertain, but hopefully likely.

Sony is reported to have no comment, so we'll see what becomes of this. Honestly, we don't use much Facebook or Twitter on our Xbox 360, but here's a software update we'd like to see the PS3 add very soon.

Having a direct app from the dashboard would be nice. You can access these sites through the built in browser already. This would be a cool feature to have though.

the ps3's menu layout is an XMB not a dashboard. 360 doesn't even have a browser (epic fail)
but yeah, apologies accepted.

The full version doesn't allow for chat and the links may take a little while to load up even after loading the main components of the page. It's why i use the mobile version of the website, but ever since, i never used the full site on the PS3 web browser.

Thats exactly why the browser is useless (epic fail)...wait, doesnt my laptop have a browser??!?!Oh my god it does! Its so fast too!

I hope it actually does show updates kinda like the trophies and friends. But if that existed, there'd have to be a way to filter which ones come through and/or turn them off. It'd look like the days when web browsers didn't have pop-up blockers: annoying.

it would be nice if they updated the xmb so it can be used efficiently as a media player. Maybe tweak the way you can browse thru you music and vids. I get tired of having to scroll down all the time with 20 gigs of music on there. Please fix this stuff first.

Just curious as to how you would want to be able to browse? I find the options for browsing (by artist, album, song title, date, genre, playlists) perfectly fine for me. Was wondering what else you would need for browsing?

Just more ways that the Xbox is losing its exclusivity. I really don't hate the Xbox, but its not free online service, non-built in wifi, and bad failure rate made me go through with my purchase of the PS3. I really do like some of the features of the Xbox, and the PS3 is slowly becoming more popular and an even more well rounded device.

I sorry to tell you this but these type of things, you shouldn't really be putting them out so that we call all see it. For all in all, we wouldn't care she cheated on you (wonder why she did it) and second, we use it to cheat also.
Needless to say, you dont really have to use it.....

Tools are tools. If not Facebook, she would have used something else. It's common for us to want to shift blame, but Facebook didn't have the affiar. If she met the dude on Facebook keep in mind she was already predisposed for whateve reason to meet a guy somewhere else as well.

So what's the point? If your new wife (assuming you have or will find one...) likes Facebook ...don't punish her with your bias from your ex. Your new wife will have all new issues and baggage for you to deal with. They deserve to be taken on their own merit and not be seen through the filter of your old wife...Ok advice done. Sorry about that.

I don't see the point in this. The default start up page for the PS3 web browser (unless some one changes it) has links directly to You Tube, Twitter and others. Facebook as a system icon makes little sense to me as it's not always little blurbs like Twitter. Facebook is far better viewed in the PS3 web browser so that links and videos actually take you to the places and allow you to watch the videos. Honestly I'd rather see them an option to easily full screen a web video in the browser (other than the current the manual zoom and reposition method) than have Facebook XMB. Facebook currently works fine in the web browser, and honestly how much harder is it to open the web browser and click on a book mark? Maybe 10-15 seconds tops...

I would use a facebook app on the xmb. I do use through my browser, but i think something in the software would be better.

I don't have a Facebook account currently so if they added the feature as shown it would just be something else for me to scroll past, which is by no means a big deal. As many have stated though you can always just use the browser.

An unrelated question to other console owners - I leave a USB keyboard plugged in most the time for use on the browser - anyone also use the browser much? I see a lot of people completely dismissing it and saying things like 'buy a PC', but just honestly there have been several times when my nine year old son has asked me questions involving things like World War II, Chernobyl, and other historical events while we are sitting around in the living room. When you are sitting there with a good sized HD TV right in front of you to pull up information, photos, and videos then I find it a lot easier and more effective then going off to huddle around the PC.

The browser on my PS3 is glacially slow and hangs frequently. It is so painful to use I rarely use it. So, I might actually use the facebook app.

All the complaining about xmb vs dashboard ignores the simple fact that nobody makes a 50" LCD, nobody.

your wrong. Thats why.

@ whycali

ummmmm what are you talking about? I don't understand your point for a couple of reasons:

1. Firstly, yes companies do make 50" LCD TV's. Personally I went with a 50" plasma, but the option is there for the LCD if you want it as well.
2. Even if you were right about there being no 50" LCD's, what does that have to do with anything?

Or do I have you totally wrong and you are talking about dedicated LCD computer monitors? Even if you were I still don't understand what that has to do with the XMB comment.
