'Stealth' Droid commercial looks amazing

The always-impressive Boy Genius Report has gotten its hands on a copy of Verizon and Google's newest commercial for the Droid. The commercial's called Stealth, and it's rather amazing, even though it doesn't tell us much about the Motorola handset that's set to drop Friday.

Mysterious and well-shot, the commercial should start running on TV this week, according to BGR. We're guessing you'll see it first during Tuesday night's premiere of "V" on ABC, or maybe during the World Series. With something this high budget you'd expect Verizon to put it in front of as many eyes as possible. We'll be watching the skies on 11/6.

I think Motorola is marketing this at the wrong people.
Some of them look like they are still on the rotary.

What I want to know is ... when do I get my free "air to surface" missile phone?

Cool stylized F-117 stealth fighters. Just a side note for those who may not know: all F-117 planes were retired from service in 2008, and replaced by the F-22.

One of the shortest service lives of any aircraft in Air Force history.

25 years is still good long time for an aircraft like that, especially since the plane it replaced, the SR-71, was around for 34 years. Not all of them can be around like the B-52 though (54 years).

That was one of the better ads I've seen in a while. Should definitely help to build the hype

Great commercial! Verizon is using a very good marketing firm for this launch. They started by taking jabs at the iPhone with the iDon't commercial to get the tech crowd and media buzzing. Now, this commercial that will get the attention of the non-tech crowd and main stream consumer... All while keeping an air of mystery surrounding the actual phone to keep people interested. I'm guessing we'll see commercials that actually feature the phone once it's available. Bravo, Verizon!

Actually I saw this commercial on air yesterday (November 3) on TV during So You Think You Can Dance. It WAS CRAZY. First I thought may be it's a commercial for V. Then I thought it was a new movie I haven't heard about. Then ...... the red glowing eye gave it all away. Amazing work.

meh, I am not impressed. I prefer the HTC commercials by far.

I think Verizon is doing it wrong.

This has been by far Verizon's best ad campaign for any device or service. If you think they are doing it wrong, you have clearly never been schooled in marketing or advertising.

They have this phone supported by every advertising medium: social media, experiential marketing and traditional print and screen adverts. They have done an amazing job of taking jabs at competitors (something they don't traditionally do).

You may not like the phone and it may not be the iPhone killer (doubtful there will ever be one of those), but the advertising deserves props.

Anyone that doesn't understand this commercial is an idiot! My 65 year old grandmother who has never owned a cellphone is suddenly interested in getting 1 after seeing 2 Droid commercials and hearing all the buzz about the phone. Verizon and Motorola are definitely firing on all cylinders with this ad campaign!

It's amazing you're calling this commercial amazing when it isn't amazing. Sorry.

This commercial is a stupid appeal to blind militarism. What, dropping bombs on ranchers, scaring horses, threatening civilians with the kind of deaths experienced by Afghanis is cool? Then the product is "revealed" but we still don't learn why we were subjected to the threat of major military violence, we just have to oggle the little red evil eye! Neat!

This appeal to militarism is ironic given that Motorola is under boycott for its sales and support of militarized system to Israel in support of Israel's illegal occupation of the West Bank. Motorola is up to the hilt involved with Israel's illegal wall and settlements. No wonder the average consumer is considered a target!

Can anyone tell me why the F-117s launch "droid" missiles or whatever you want to call it into the ocean. Are they hoping to market Motorola droid phones mermaids and underwater sea people....

Just saying....
