Powermat has been touting its wireless chargers for a while now--ever since CES 2009, quite frankly--but now they're finally available for you, the consumer, to purchase.

The Powermat is a one-pad, one-plug system (pictured above right) that charges all your gadgets in one place without wires. Your gadget gets a special "Powermat Receiver" sleeve so that it can use magnetic induction charging to power your devices. (Aren't familiar with magnetic induction? If you've got an Oral-B rechargeable toothbrush, or a Palm Touchstone charger for your Pre, it's the same thing.)

nice try, but FALSE advertisement. its not wireless. to me wireless is when you could walk around the house with the device and still charge it (without any attachment).

here is a Definition of wireless:
Wireless is the transfer of information over a distance without the use of electrical conductors

This is the letter I sent to Power Matt manufacturer.
I mistakenly bought one of your products today. It would not work with my blackberry or my tmobile g-1. The I realized that I had to spend much more to make the thing actually work. So I found this to be very misleading. The advertisement is also very misleading. As a soldier I find this very disheartening. I sent an email to my entire network of soldiers to warn them about this product. At 99 dollars it is far too much money for someone to be caught off guard with an "ooohh you have to buy more" statement. I am glad Best Buy has a good return policy becuase this junk and is going back immediatly in the morning. I called the manager this evening to ask about their policy and they are gladly accepting 100% of the returns for this very misleading product. The manager even commented on how funny it was that just about every one that sells comes right back with he same complaint. I forwarded a copy of my complaint to cnet review so they could look in to this as well and give this product some exposure. I hope their review goes better then mine. Funny how your picture shows a blackberry charging wirelessly on the box buy no mention of the ooooooooohoh wires you have to use or the extra accessories you have to buy to use it.

Respectfully,
SGT D

Wow, 1st) what is the point of saying your a soldier? 2nd) it is not misleading, reading the reviews and info on the product before you buy it. They dont in anyway claim that you wont have to buy anything else. They make it very clear that every device will need a sort of receiver on it to be charged on the mat. Dont blame other people for your own stupidity.

This is to Dankin, who replied to this originally. First off, he has every right to say he is a soldier and you should show some respect to those who have risked and are risking their lives and die every day to protect this country. Secondly, there are many advertisements that show these devices without the "Assessories" on them, yet it's suposedly "charging" them. Its not stupidity on the consumer's part when a manufacturer places ad's on Tv, in magazines, and such without any acknowledgement that there is more. Its the manufacturer's stupidity.

I think it should have been called a cordless device charger...meaning you can charge your devices without the charger cords for them...or in the case of my cell phone...a broken charger port is what is keeping me from charging my device...sorry to hear it didn't work out for you SGT D
