Archos is out with its very first tablet PC, the Archos 9. We got a quick hands-on with the 9-inch touch-screen tablet and managed to snap a few pics.

While it won't be ready for stores until October 22, when Windows 7 also officially rolls out, we have some details for you. Check out the slideshow below for more.

I hope that screen appears a whole lot BRIGHTER when viewed head on! Looks pitiful from the side. If I were Archos I'd have complained about such pictures being snapped, making for a very unflattering first impression of the device.

The Archos 9 further proves that Apple is too obsessed with the HypePhone to really provide fresh innovation to the tech market.

The HypePhone needs to evolve and so does Apple, for that matter.
This is what happens when you sit on your ass and count the money. The competition comes up from behind and redefines the market that you "own".

Like how Microsoft let Windows Mobile languish for years without innovating.

Like what the Apple iPhone did to Microsoft Windows Mobile.

I think this is great. The screen is the brightest screen out there for a tablet pc on the market (there are none). More competition between tablets will create better price points and feature robustness. Archos has been a long time maker of portables they know what they're doing. I don't care which maker will have the best one. The important fact is there will be options.

Too bad there isn't more storage and a composite/HDMI video output (is there a dock that has this? either way, I'd prefer it to be built in). It'd be nice to store all my videos on this. Their upcoming Android PMPs has a 500 GB model, so maybe that'll work, but it'd be nice to have Windows 7 for capabilities like playing any media file, the "full internet experience", etc.

You can get the archos 5 is android and linux based. It uses linux for audio/video. Apparently linux is better at that than android.

But the benefit of win 7 is that I already have plenty of software that I can install. And I can do what I need to for work beyond full blown development and not lug around a full laptop.

Why don't you just install them yourself? Archos has been allowing source code downloads for their gpl code, and we could always use a hand designing new drivers.

Can you call it available if there isn't a single retailer online or off with the product for sale?

Even Amazon, that allows pre-orders months ahead of time doesn't have a listing.

So far, all I can see is that Archos updated the website.

Maybe they meant, October 22, 2010.

Does anyone know where you can buy the Archos Pc 9 tablet? It released almost a week ago and I cannot find anyone who sells it.
