The Dell UltraSharp U2410 has a similar design to recent "10" series monitors from Dell.

The Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP is the highest-rated monitor I've yet reviewed. It's also the most popular monitor I've reviewed, as it's constantly in the top five most viewed monitors and is many times, No. 1.

On Monday Dell started selling what some are seeing as the successor to the UltraSharp 2408WFP, the UltraSharp U2410.

The new monitor keeps the 16:10 aspect ratio of the 2408WFP, with a 1,900x1,200 resolution. While the 2408WFP got its wide viewing angles and color fidelity from a S-PVA panel, the U2410 utilizes an IPS panel to (hopefully) do the same.

Other specs for the U2410 include a 400 cd/m2 brightness, a 6ms response time, four USB ports, and VGA, DVI-D, DisplayPort, HDMI, and Component connections.

The price? $599. That's $50 less than Dell currently sells the 2408WFP for. Look for a review a couple seconds after Dell sees fit to send me a monitor to try out.

The following product mentioned is available.

On Sale Now: $599.99

I hate the look of the stand though, I think Apple makes the best stand for a LCD with its Cinema Displays.

You certainly pay a premium for the Cinema Displays though.

I think the stand is in keeping with the rest of the display (I mean that in a nice way). The Mac stands are nice (I have one here) but honestly, you kinda forget about it really quick. I think this is pretty spiffy looks from Dell here, minimal details stark appearance (at least from the front) it's nice. This is a display which you can probably forget about really quick and just concentrate on the content (which is really the point isn't it?)

I kinda like the "lampless" frame too (I really hate those ultra bright blue LEDs some monitor makers put on their displays).

If you're using it like a vase in the corner of your living room than sure spend the extra $$$ for the stand. But I would buy a monitor for its ability not for how glossy and shiny the stand is.

Mr. Dee, I agree. It looks so boring for such a feature-rich monitor. It'd be nice if they blended the looks of their Crystal display with the performance and features of this one.

And Eric, sorry about emailing you about this. I came across this article just after I emailed you.

They roll out these new monitors but they do not comply with the newer wider movie format.
I am trying to get rid of the black borders people!

Grrrr.

Yes, but some people opt for productivity over movie watching. Almost every monitor released this year has been 16:9, so there are PLENTY to choose from. This is a nice release for us who want a 16:10.

You should perhaps consider purchasing a television...

As others have noted, if you're so concerned about movies format and borders, buy a TV that suits your needs. For people who actually use their PC's for productivity and need larger screen space this monitor suits that need.

I have a 2408, and I really, really like it... I've wanted a second to match for some time, but I'm waiting for a bit more of a price drop... Maybe this 2410 will bring things down a bit...

Can't wait for your review Eric! I just might upgrade to this monitor in the future! But please, address the color reproduction/accuracy in regards to professional usage. Like, would this monitor be THE monitor to get if you need absolute best color reproduction for a mid-range quality monitor (as compared to a high-range quality HP DreamColor LP2480zx)?

@halprin Can't say exactly when you'll see a review. That will mostly depend on Dell. When I do finally test it, i'll be sure to keep your concerns in mind.

I'll be looking forward to it as well.

As you are looking for the professional opinion. I would like to ask about the gamer side.

Hi Eric,

I very much enjoy and appreciate your monitor reviews. I've been keeping an eye out for your take on Dell's U2410.

I recently purchased a Dell G2410 as my first ever wide-screen LCD monitor. I returned it in a few days, as I wasn't happy with the relatively poor color accuracy and viewing angles. Plus, I discovered (whilst using the G2410) the internet is still predominately 4:3, so I'd prefer the extra height of a 16:10 monitor.

I was just about to purchase the 2408WFP, when the U2410 popped up on Dell's site. I had no idea it was coming. Naughty Dell!

Eric, do you think will Dell release an UltraSharp LED LCD any time soon? I assume they won't as it would be too cost prohibitive.

Anyway... I can't wait for your review of the U2410.

That would be nice indeed...have to wonder whether the price would rise as a result of the LED enhancements.

Does it tilt though?

Hi Eric,

Have you received one yet from Dell?

Should we expect a review soon?
