Earlier on Wednesday morning, Apple CEO Steve Jobs took center stage here in San Francisco and unveiled a new lineup of iPods, iPhone 3.1, and iTunes 9.

The latter brings new additions, such an improved overall interface, an LP feature, a Genius Mix functionality, and oh, hey guess what? It also breaks the ability for the Palm Pre to sync with iTunes. This doesn't come as much as a surprise as Apple and Palm have been going back and forth on this issue. While mildly entertaining at first, this little cat fight is beginning to wear thin, particularly for Pre owners, we suspect.

We'll have to wait and see if Palm fights back and some think that the company might try to sneak a fix into the widely reported but unreleased WebOS 1.2 update. Of course, you can always choose not to update to iTunes 9 or use third-party software to sync your device with iTunes.

probably the was the reason palm is delaying webos 1.2 so they can work on a fix like they did last time. hopefully palm can come up with their own software, coz if palm continues with cat and mouse game they gonna loose some credibility as they cannot make a good syncking sofware.

Apple is amazing at marketing very minor changes as though they were big new innovations. Nothing on the list makes me want to upgrade to iTunes 9. Besides, I'm pretty tired of being nagged by Apple to update my iTunes and/or Quicktime software constantly, and each time having to look carefully to make sure I don't get unwanted icons all over my desktop, and all just so I can get software for stuff I don't want or use. Now you want to break my Pre capabilities - again? How about backing off, Apple? I want to like you, truly I do, but you make it so hard.

To be honest it isn't an annoyance to me at all. I usually hit ignore on iTunes updates for months on end before I finally click "update" to get rid of it.

I use iTunes because I enjoy looking at the sexy coverflow.

Thats about it.

Go Palm.

Maybe Palm could actually write their OWN software. Don't even have to write all their own music management software, just something that reads the iTunes library and syncs it.

Bah - one more reason why I'll never use iTunes. Love my Pre, and any other app that will sync to an MP3 player (Windows Media Player, for one) will work with it. Apple can take a long walk off a short pier -- they are only shooting themselves in the foot by not playing nice.

The fact remains that apple doesn't give a rats * about their customers. They know they've got a cult and that nobody's going anywhere no matter how they get treated. That translates over to them caring less about customers they don't realize they have. The fact of the matter is that Palm pre owners are apple customers. They buy music from apple. I'm kind of surprised the music companies aren't saying or doing anything about apple preventing people from buying their stuff through whatever source they want.
