Dell offers a tantalizing sneak peek at a revamped Adamo laptop today, with a photo and brief teaser description of the new system:

9/9/09 comes only once and today Dell is offering a glimpse of its highly stylized, thin 9.99-millimeter Adamo By Dell concept that's as beautiful as today's date is unique.

You'll recall the original Adamo was similarly teased at CES 2009, and we brought you a first-ever hands-on look of it back in March. At the time, we said: "Dell's upscale Adamo is a 13-inch laptop for those who value design and finish as much as performance, but its luxury price will limit the potential audience."

Details on the Adamo 2.0 (our nickname) are scant right now, but if you want a sneak peek at Dell's new "world's thinnest laptop" candidate, head over to www.dell.com/AdamoXPS.

This is interesting, i always thought that the original Adamo had a few things to fix before becoming a truly competitive product, namely battery life and a few build quality issues. I hope they have a strong contender here.

9.99 mm THIN?! That's only about 1 mm thicker than the second gen iPod Touch. Those of you with one of those knows how thin that thing is. I can't even imagine opening something that small o_O Each half of the laptop would have to be ~5mm. That's...just...crazy.

Yes, this is thin, but not as thin as Nanite Corporation's new 12 micron thick, sub microgram weight

Unfortunately it runs on quantum foam which causes it to teleport to another reality in 3.21 picoseconds thus limiting it's useful life.

But it's a PC! PCs are supposed to be cheaper than Apple products, aren't they? I bet we'll see the laptop hunters picking one up in no time...

if they can actually make it 9.99mm then I will be impressed. but not if it's like 1.5 cm at one end and then tapered. that's cheating.

Oh for crying out loud. Dell's motto should be "We copy Apple". This new Adummo is trying to be a Macbook Air, right down to the marketing. P-A-T-H-E-T-I-C.

says the fanboy who froths at the mouth. Calm down. The trend these days is toward thin notebooks. Apple doesn't have a patent to create thin notebooks and if it somehow did, that would be a monopoly.

Last I checked, the Adamo comes with an ethernet cord, something some of us still use for stable connections.

Calm down, boy.

Chill, they did copy the world in making a mobilephone, mp3 players too... it's call 'making it better'

Another Vanity Project from Dell destined to fail. And the last time I checked, their Customer Support was the worst in the industry. It's my recommendation that they put $$$ into support and knock off the 'air wanna-be' products. In my opinion.

Based on some of the latest customer satisfaction surveys for PCs, Dell is actually scoring quite well...second only to Apple.

Really, somebody please tell me... why would you need some thing so thin??!!! One good reason. It's not because it's portable, NO... Netbooks are portable (some of them)... 13" is not so portable (trust me i know). Maybe it'll come in handy, if you forgot to shave and you have an important meeting that morning! lol!

What features thin laptops _don't_ have is longer than the features they do.

Great idea releasing a luxury-priced product in this day and age
