BERLIN--We're here at IFA at the Sony press conference, where Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer reckons the "3D train is on the track--and we're the ones to drive it home." 3D is Sony's big push, but we're more interested in the announcement of a movie-download service for PS3 and PSP, via the PlayStation Network.

Sony has announced its first 3D-compatible Bravia LCD TV, to arrive in 2010. It promises a high frame rate and 1,920x1,080 pixels per eye to give what Sony describes as "high-definition, high-quality 3D images." 3D-enabled Blu-ray players are set to follow and even the PS3 will be involved.

We're shown the trailer for 3D movie "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs," which includes burgers falling from the sky straight at the camera.

From the sample footage shown off here, live football looks like rubbish, unless players run right up to the camera, but games and nature programs look great in dimensional triplicate.

After Sony's recent restructuring, Sir Howard on Wednesday also unveils a new global motto for the company: "Make Dot Believe." Who's Dot? Sir Howie's grandma back in Wales? Oh, hang on, sorry, it's "Make.Believe."

PlayStation Network's video-delivery service for Europe will allow you to download and rent moviefilms to PS3 and PSP, and transfer them between the two.

PSN has all the major studios on board: Sony, Warner Bros, Universal, Paramount, Disney, MGM, Lionsgate, and local networks. It'll kick off this November.

I want to rent the moviefilms! Seriously though, 3D could be interesting, not really excited about 3D glasses though, they are always a pain to wear with my real glasses.

Does it also broadcast in full HD? If you have a function for 3D then go back to watchin Directv HD then I am game. I live near Cleveland and we have NO 3D theaters around.

Just as soon as we can put chips in our brains and take out our retina for something from Sony.

3d for the porn industry... WOO HOO! Gonna have an almost matrix like quality to watching it as you have to dodge the stray shots.... I can almost imagine someone trying to sue sony for throwing their back out in the process....

Seriously though.. There are plenty of 3d techs out, alot of em work... Somewhat.... Alot of em are gimmicks.. Be nice if they get it workin right eventually though. I for one would certainly love to play something like fallout 3 in high def 3D.

haha, was thinking the same thing, now for 2015 for 3D with touch, or maybe they will have just add-on for your TV, lots of old fart sue over bad backs.

Need to have a rating for the kind of 3D could cause some major body injuries, heart attacks, couple dispute.

Yes I am sure over time there will be psychological help for those addicted to 3D Sony porn, wee.

Great, so NOW Playstation (Sony) is what...2steps behind Microsoft's Xbox? Can I download HighDef movies in Xbox already? Yes. Have been able to for quite some time. Can I have a great online XPerience without getting booted off the game server or suffering from terrible lag? Yep! Can I connect to my Netflix account and instantly view one of thousands of movies for nothing more than I normally pay? Yes again! Can I seamlessly connect my Xbox, DirecTV and PC to create one hell of a home entertainment system? You betcha! Will I be able to check Facebook, Twitter AND port Last.fm?

Bottom line...Sony is trying to hold on to its market share. If Natal turns out to be everything it's cracked up to be, good luck with that!

You forgot one. Can I boot up my xbox without fear of that dreadful red ring of lights? Hmmm back to watching blurays on my ps3.

Can you also not have to send the xbox 360 for repair ever few months?

Can you play blu-ray disk, nope, can you download what you call HD, I don't think so, maybe for your small TV but for me and my 60" Samsung (plasma) nothing looks better than blu-ray.

Two totally different companies with different ideas about what the market wants. I own all 3 systems, and I still have the most fun with friends on the wii go figure, I like the PS3 interface better when it comes to most things, but I do like the xbox 360 online experience, but not the aimbotting or all the lag hacks I get from halo 3.

Sony in my opinion is not trying to catch up they are doing their own thing, which to me is good for the consumer. Netflix, please those low level graphic, I take the ps3 any day for movies even a regular DVD looks so nice when I upcode it on the ps3, what I would have loved to have seen from sony is an upgrade on the graphic memory or even new video card, now that would have been cool.

3D ready ps3? Will current ps3 owners be left out on the cold? Or well there be a downloadable firmware update that will make our current ps3's 3D ready?

Just for reference... the "fat" PS3 and current new Slim PS3 model are already 3D compatible. A quick peak at this was presented in a "QORE" episode (Playstation 3 online Magazine...kind of) a few months back with Burn Out Paradise.... you might also be able to locate online (google) details in reference to Sony's presentation at CES 2009. At that time they displayed Gran Turismo 3D. Based on Nividia's technology and their current 3D PC setup with a lower level of graphic card versus whats found in the PS3 only makes me think Sony hasn't squeezed all the juice out of the PS3's video card as of yet...but I'm assuming at this point.

As the 3D Surfing and snowboarding content provider at the Sony booth theater and the 3D BCS game, I was wondering how it compared to other content that you saw? Per Peterson/Times squared Productions Sony
