Jitterbug now on Verizon Wireless
Samsung Jitterbug J
(Credit: Corinne Schulze/CNET)Usually when we recommend people get the Samsung Jitterbug J, a cell phone designed for seniors, we have to include a warning that the Jitterbug service might not be available in their area.
GreatCall, creator of the Jitterbug handsets, made deals with several different carriers across the country to carry its service, so it was very close to nationwide coverage but not quite complete.
Thursday, however, GreatCall and Verizon announced that the Jitterbug service will now be operating on the Verizon Wireless network as part of Verizon Wireless' Open Development program, which all but ensures better coverage nationwide.
Jitterbug also added onto the announcement with more minutes and more affordable night and weekend calls on its monthly plans. Sounds like a great move all around, especially for Jitterbug customers.

Overpriced? Yes, if you know what you're doing, or if you have grandkids willing to play tech support for you. But as it turns out people usually want to be paid to do that for other peoples' grandparents.

- ignorance is bliss!!! if only those of you who are making these comments had just a few facts to support your ridiculous comments. those of us who know the facts of the jitterbug look at these comments and to be honest with you...i, myself, think how foolish you appear with your comments. i have to remind myself that you are entitled to your opinion because that is all it is. you have NO facts. if you knew your actual facts you would know that this phone is for long term usage, no contract, dollar for dollar is a much better value, simplicity all the way, better coverage, louder volume, larger numbers, no paying for minutes you don't use and the list goes on. as for people doing things for you...obviously that word is greek to many but i call it customer service and it is a wonderful service to give a customer. more companies should learn the definition of the word. jitterbug gives many people a security that none other can give. get your facts straight or would you please not say anything so you don't mislead someone that this phone could seriously help out there! thanks a lot.
