CNET's top-rated 23-inch LCD computer monitors

I won't lie; the Dell SP2309W is hands-down my favorite 23-incher, thanks to its 2,048x1,152 resolution.

My new favorite LCD computer monitor category is the 23-inch. The 23-inchers by their nature have 16:9 aspect ratios, which means at least a 1,920x1,080 resolution. Sure, that's not quite as large as say a 24-incher's 1,920x1,200 resolution, but it's much better than a 22-incher's comparatively low 1,680x1,050.

We've only reviewed a few of these, but I thought it was a good time to feature the best ones...actually, these are the only ones we've reviewed, but I do list them in order of preference. So, if you're having trouble deciding which 23-incher is right for you, check put this convenient, easy-to-follow, wholesome comparison.

Eric Franklin refused to write a bio, saying, "Why are you bothering me about this bio business again? If I wanted people to know more about me, I'd send them to the Inside CNET Labs Podcast" (shameless plug). E-mail Eric.

Nice. Didn't know about this one. I'll probably do a budget roundup soon and try to include this one. Thanks!

More interesting than this comparison is the one between the Dell 23 inch and 24 inch (G-series) monitor. Which do you prefer? I'm trying to choose between the two.

Do you mean the G2410 and G2210? If so, I prefer the G2410 thanks to it's 1920x1080 resolution. The G2210 tops out at 1680x1050.

Sorry I wasn't more clear. What I really mean is the SP2309 vs the G2410! What do you think?

You also forgot this monitor from SAMSUNG. 40 bucks cheaper than the DELL with the same high dens resolution. And if you're not lazy like me, then you can get it for 60 bucks cheaper after the mail in rebate...but those are always too much work for me.

Been trying to get Samsung to send me that one for awhile now. Hopefully soon, they hear my plea.

that would be awesome if they did send one. I am seriously considering buying 2 of them...although since it's SAMUNG i'm sure the quality is there

I got this one at frys for $200 yesterday . it is great. but my only my macbook pro can realy get the highest resolutiuon. neither an xbox 360 thru dvi-hdmi adapter nor a basic pC thru db15 can achieve higher resolution than 1920x1200. but even though it is great specially if it came to replace a 15 inch crt.
by thom2002 August 3, 2009 2:06 AM PDT
well the xbox at a lower resolution makes sense as it's only meant to be played on TVs which have max vertical res of 1080 so that doesn't sound like a problem really. I'm excited to see how they look in person when I order some

I have the 16:10 Dell Ultrasharp 24". Best monitor I have ever used. A 16:9 would be *better* for watching movies, but I love the real estate of this size.

Dell makes an SP2309W with no webcam or HDMI for $179 and i bought it on sale for $159. Great monitor if you don't need all the extra features.

What 24 inch monitor that has an IPS panel do you recommend?

it sucks that an IPS display wasn't recommended though I can't say I'm surprised
anyway, Apple's is good, though expensive even for an IPS when you compare to Dell or HP
