On Tuesday,T-Mobile answered the prayers of many smartphone fanatics and officially announced the upcoming release of the HTC Touch Pro2 smartphone. The Touch Pro2 will be available starting August 12 and will come in a mocha finish, but pricing was not revealed at press time.

First announced at GSMA 2009 as the successor to the HTC Touch Pro, the Touch Pro2 will finally bring T-Mobile customers a much-needed update to the T-Mobile Wing, which has been in circulation since 2007.

While the smartphone will still run on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, it brings a number of notable improvements, such as a brilliant 3.6-inch WVGA tilting touch screen, a touch-sensitive zoom bar, a spacious full QWERTY keyboard, and support for T-Mobile's 3G network. The Touch Pro2 rounds out the wireless options with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. Other goodies include HTC's Straight Talk technology, which brings enhanced phone features, and a 3.2-megapixel camera.

T-Mobile is the first U.S. carrier to offer the HTC Touch Pro2. We actually got a look at the unlocked European version of the smartphone and were very impressed with what we saw and have also been anxiously awaiting its Stateside debut. We'll definitely get in T-Mobile's version for a full shakedown, but while you wait for the August 12 release, you can get an idea of what to expect here in our full review of the unlocked HTC Touch Pro2.

The following product mentioned is available.

On Sale Now: $349.99

What do you mean "still WinMo 6.1"? In terms of support for enterprise users, it crushes Android and S60s. I'd love to swap my G1 for this: native Excel and Word, ability to connect to EAP/TTLS WiFi APs, desktop sync with Outlook, and thousands of WinMo apps that aren't soundboards or conversion utilities.

Yeah, sign me up.

I'm pretty sure she was referring to WinMo 6.5 not being pre installed

Dkrcubsfan is right. I was referring to WinMo 6.5. Sorry for any confusion; I'll add a little clarification.

I don't think it's unreasonable not to expect 6.5 to be installed since it hasn't even released yet!

once again Verizon wireless dropped the ball in getting the latest smartphone like the touch pro 2 out first. Wonder when Verizon will get off the couch and start listening to the customers and get them out faster..

I think it's time for a 3 way PRIZE FIGHT. The I Phone, Palm Pre & Touch Pro 2. I'm in need of a new cell phone so I waited for the Touch Pro 2 (4 months) before I make up my mine.......May the best phone win

I went by a Sprint store today 08/02. They have taken the touch pro's off the shelf in prep for the touch pro 2. Rumors have it arriving to Sprint on October 11.

Looking at the HTC Touch Pro 2, on the manufacturer's website I see that they've opted not to add an external button for the camera, again. It was awesome on the HTC Mogul and I missit on my Touch Pro. Users will have to navigate to the option via the Windows Mobile interface...arrgghhh! I've missed many a cool camera shot by having to do that....on top of the camera taking 6 seconds to take a picture anyway. Sigh...

Not available in the pittsburgh market at all. I kept trying to take a look at the phone, but it wasn't in any of the stores. Finally I asked which "Larger" stores were likely to have it. They told me the phone is delayed in the pittsburgh market. Its not available here at all. Glad they wasted my time.
