Update: The following post has been updated with pricing and corrected to reflect the fact that the adapter does not promise compatibility with Apple's iPhone.

For those who can't wait for headphone manufacturers to incorporate iPod remote control units, help is on hand with the iLuv iEA15 adapter.

The iEA15 is an in-line remote that's compatible with recent iPod models, including the third-generation iPod Shuffle, and doesn't have any physical buttons on the unit. The in-line remote supports the VoiceOver feature found on the Shuffle, as well, but what makes this interesting is that it lets you plug in any headphone you like to your iPod and still have the convenience of a remote control.

This adapter works for the second-generation iPod Touch, fourth-generation iPod Nano, and iPod Classic. The adapter does not advertise support for the iPhone, unfortunately. Still, it's a solution if you want some control over your iPod's music and aren't willing to shell out for a better pair of $85.66 Apple in-ear headphones to replace the bundled ones, especially when there are many better models on the market today for the same price.

The iLuv iEA15 goes on sale in August with a retail price of $14.99.

Am not a apple fanboy but this is nice, too bad is not compatible with my first gen. Ipod touch. I guess am gonna wait for the supposed rumured third generation ipod touch coming on september. Maybe it will include this adapter too. that will be great. No more pulling out my Ipod touch to skip tracks or for volume adjustment.

Oh look! Something that shouldn't had to be made in the first place!

Thanks Apple!

Good... I am glad that this connector has come out. I would never buy a new iPod shuffle if I thought I had to use those cheap earbuds that came with it.

No, the search giant isn't saying it will build a Netbook. But it sure knows what it would like one running Chrome OS to resemble, and that's a little different from the Netbook of today.
